      About a year ago, I was finishing up my senior year of high school, and as a part of my writing class, I finally wrote and finished a story of decent length. The accountability of that class really helped me get my writing done. I haven’t done much since then, (although largely because of college), and I would love to get some good writing done before I go back to school in the fall, so I wanted to see if anyone else would be interested in participating. (I could do it on my own, but I think it’s more fun to do with a group.)

      In my writing class last year, we did it like this: the first assignment was to turn in an outline. Then the teacher assigned us to small groups, based somewhat on what genre people were writing and were interested in reading. Every week, for 8 weeks, we posted a chapter for our group to give feedback on.

      Obviously, we don’t have a teacher, and I know not everyone likes to use outlines, so we probably would make that step optional.

      So, what does everyone think? Interested? I’m already done with school, but I know college tends to get out earlier, so if other people are still in school and don’t have time yet, we can pick a start date based on that.

        This sounds like a cool idea. I don’t write very orthodox, so I won’t have an outline. (just character outlines). I’m also not sure if I’m sharing my current novels on line for marketing purposes. (They’ll be releasing this summer, starting with the first one later this month)

        But I’d sure be willing to breathe down anyone’s neck who wants it, or I can see how you end up setting it up.

        I bet @koshka and @elishavet-pidyon  might be interested.

          I’d be willing to give it a shot. I need to start actually writing again so this could help.

            It sounds like a super fun idea! I don’t know if I’ll participate this time, though, since I’m kind of in the middle of my WIP and already have some people critiquing it. Thanks for the invite! Oh, and like Ellette said, if you happen to need some outsiders to force help people get writing, I could probably do that! 😁

                I’ll see if I have time. I have rowing to do, plus I’m looking into getting a job this summer as well as taking the first steps to getting my driver’s permit since I’m turning 16 end of July and would like to get my permit as soon as possible. If I have time, I’d be interested!

                Not sure what I’d write yet though…

                  Hmmm. I do want more accountability in my work. I don’t follow a traditional outline in the WIP I decided to focus on for the Summer, but I can get a Chapter/Word outline thingy put together, if that’s wanted.

                  I am working at a church/Bible college campground for the Summer though, so hours and stuff are gonna be weird. But at the same time, I don’t have as many chores and stuff as if I was at home, just work and housekeeping, so I can set aside actual time to write.

                  So, how’s this going to work?

                    I was planning on writing my first draft on paper, and not typing or sharing anything until draft two, but if something like this is set up, I may join.

                          @jonas I’d love to join! I do have a summer job (lunch break rn), so I’m not sure how much time and energy I’ll actually have, but I would really love to have other people pushing me to get writing done.

                          I’ll have a hard time picking which story to work on though.

                            I am interested in theory. Thing is, I like to keep my outline secret (HUGE outliner here 😂), and I don’t like sharing large amounts of my work on forums. I’m not against getting critiques from people, it’s more a matter of controlling who has access to my writing.

                            If my dad helps me set up an account on a secure writing software, something I can change the access to, maybe I’ll do this?

                            At the very least, I can use a group like this for word count accountability! I would love to have somewhere to report my word count so I make consistent progress.

                            I will make you lose The Game with me.

                              An accountability group like this would be great! Consistently writing large sections is not my strong point, lol. I have a fairly intense job this summer, but I’m still hoping to write in breaks, since I’m currently free of college.

                              I’m also not very comfortable with sharing much of my actual writing on an open forum like this. (Membership is limited, but not browsing) Maybe snippets+word count for accountability, and the whole chapter sent to a specific person in the group to critique? And I could do an outline, but it wouldn’t be very detailed. I’ve still got a bit to work out.

                                @koshka

                                An outline would be purely optional, and for anyone who does make one, it’s completely optional whether you want to share it. For one thing, it would probably be good for at least some people to be reading without knowing how the story goes. The main thing I might want is just a description of what genre you’re writing in so that (depending on how many people participate) if we have to split up into smaller feedback groups, we can assign people based on interest.

                                Basically, I’m thinking we select a start date based on when everyone is ready (I can do a google form to see what people think), which would be the day outlines are due if you’re making one. Following that, every week we write and post a new chapter (or multiple if you’re feeling extra productive, although your readers might not be able to keep up with that), and have people give feedback on it.

                                If we have a lot of people involved, we might need to split up into smaller feedback groups, because I’m not sure everyone would be able to keep up with 5+ stories at the same time. Like I said, we could do this based on what genre people are most interested in reading and split people up as evenly as possible. (Of course, anyone could give feedback on extra peoples’ stories if they wanted to and have time.)

                                @theducktator

                                Like I said, no outline is fine!

                                @loopylin

                                Great!

                                @whalekeeper

                                Okay! And, yeah, you don’t have to share your outline if you want to keep it secret. As far as keeping it private, what we could do pretty easily is use google docs and set them to only be viewable by the participants in this group (although that would require sharing emails I guess, so if anyone didn’t want to do that, we’d need to find something else.)

                                @elishavet-pidyon

                                As far as privacy goes, see above, although however you wanted to do it would be fine. Outline as much or little as you want!
