@koshka Cool! I am still dreaming about being able to do that someday. I mean, even from the movies it’s like *jaw drops* wow. And I bet it only gets like, oh, 100x better in person XD

Alright y’all, time for Riker. 😊 Here we go…😉

So, he gets himself arrested by the SS for helping Erich desert and they learn that like Fin, Riker’s been helping Jews escape. But Riker was able to save even more. And Hans is like: “You couldn’t have done that all alone.”

So…thus…it leads to them trying to get the information out of Riker through torture. (Physically and Psychological. My poor baby. 😭) But Riker won’t reveal ANYTHING. Two of the men that helped him were…drumroll please…Jezyk and Leonard. 😜 (someone HAD to see that coming, right? 😂) They both chose to, both being men who cared about Jews, Jezyk having dated and lost a Jewish woman, and Leonard being married to Adah, and both are IMMENSE help to Riker throughout the book. But Riker promised them, and others that were helping him, against their opposition, that IF he were caught, he would take all the blame. And he’s determined to hold onto that promise. 😉

Hans gets mad, just to be honest. 😂

But anywho! So, Riker is holding onto his promise, getting tortured by Hans and some other high officers to reveal information, but my precious baby DOESN’T BUCKLE. (So, so proud. 🥲) At one or two moments, Leonard and Jezyk see him getting beaten up and both talk to him, saying they’re ready to turn themselves in so Riker can stop being tortured. Riker changes their minds and says he won’t let them do that. It’s his choice to make. They have families to live with, one to raise for Leonard, and lives to live. He’s not afraid to go. (even though he thinks he knows where he’s going to go).

That might be the last time Riker sees them. (they both survive is the plan, don’t y’all worry!) 😉

But some of the ones who did help him end up getting revealed. But Hans thinks there has to be more. (and there are) Anywho, he ends up forcing Riker to see them kill those men and…uhm…my boy may just fall apart. BUT STILL WON’T GIVE HANS WHAT HE WANTS!!! 👏 (My baby is so brave. 🥲)

Anywho, deciding He’s not going to get anything else out of him, Hans decides to kill Riker.

BUT DO NOT FEAR, MY DEAR FRIENDS!!!!

The Americans come. 🥳🥳🥳

Hans…well…decides he doesn’t want to get captured and tells Riker to get himself captured…he deserves it. And…well…Riker and Hans fight over a pistol because…Hans decides to kill himself. (He’s the villain of Freedom’s Fire…so…not sad because he’s annoying and so full of hate…but then again…he didn’t get redeemed. 😭) Anywho, Riker tries to stop Hans from killing himself, telling Hans that “It doesn’t have to end like this”. But evntually Hans, Riker still holding the pistol from the fight, pulls back on Riker’s fingers, which were holding the pistol, pulling the trigger back.

And shoots himself, Riker still holding onto the pistol. 

So…um…my boy has another breakdown.

And runs away and goes into hiding.

We read it as each book came out. Talk about cliff hangers, we had to wait over a YEAR till Ember Rising released!
