I wrote this super quick for poetry class a few weeks back. (I’m such a bad student… 😅) And then forgot about it. But a fellow student keeps pointing out how much he likes my poetry, so I decided it looks good enough to share. Lots of it only makes sense to me. Ya know, personal history, struggles, etc. Hope you like it!
Socks as soft as dandelion
Tiptoe along sidewalk cracks
Pillbugs’ long shadows left behind
Discern between wish and fact
Cannot see or hear or feel them
Pattering of angel feet
Playing seek in the church basement
Threadbare floor for marble street
Paper airplanes in the classroom
As we talk of worlds unknown
Like it’s just a dusty newsreel
Are we senseless or alone?
Philosophy is best served with
A noodle cup, steaming hot
But while we’re down here on the earth
Who knows what is right or not?
Takes a heart to love a stranger
Even more to love a friend
Shifting thoughts like TV screens
Doubt I ever will ascend
Why know about eternity
And restrain oneself like this?

Desiderium aeternitatis means desire for eternity in latin, and for me the phrase represents the fusing of human senses with immaterial ambition. As humans, part physical and part spiritual, we have such a unique perspective on life. I just thought that was really cool, lol.

"EVERYTHING IS AWESOME..."I’ve read this like five times over it’s really good. I love the imagery and the rhythm. It’s weirdly nostalgic and kinda reminds me of my dad’s poetry.
This is kinda irrelevant, but it also brought back a fun memory of my brother and I stealing sugar cubes from our church’s kitchen in the basement when we were little. (more proof that we needed Jesus lol)
