No one holds it against you. 😀

              Conservative Republican as well.

This topic could get highly controversial, so in advance, let’s all be polite and courteous to each other, dear KeePers, no matter the differences in our opinions.

I am a conservative republican and a member of the Federal Democratic Union, one of the two truly Christian political parties in Switzerland.

I’m a conservative Republican, too. And I agree with @kate-flournoy about keeping this topic…respectable. 😀

@daeus Yours actually describes me pretty well. Right now I’m a conservative independent who leans a bit libertarian.

Yeah, on second thought it probably wasn’t totally accurate of me to call myself a Republican since I’m recently disgusted with the goings on of that party… 😛

Christian, first of all. I have strong political convictions, and at the same time I’m not really into politics.
Anti-federalist – me too! History books say they were impractical, but I don’t care. Conservative Republican. I like the Tea Party people. What is Libertarian? It sounds like “liberal”, but it can’t be. Ummm, what else? I liked Ted Cruz. I disliked Trump all the way up until the election, and now that it’s over, I’m okay with it. He won’t subjugate us to the UN. He won’t throw us homeschoolers in jail. I don’t think he’ll outlaw guns. He might even put a stop to abortion. He’s not Ted Cruz, but he’s not Hillary Clinton, either.

I don’t know much about Swiss politics. What’s it like? Is it capitalist? Socialist? Is there freedom of speech and religion? Is the government completely secular? Here in America, there’s this ridiculous “separation of church and state” thing; does Switzerland have that?

Politics in Switzerland is a rather interesting subject. We have a political system that is very, very close to a complete democracy. So, Switzerland is what the majority wants. Right now, it tends to be rather socialist. As for the separation of the state and church, that is relatively new here.
We have twenty something political parties here, two of which are truly (and I mean truly) christian. All of the parties have more or less influence in all decisions, and are represented in the national and state councils.
We have seven national counselors and one chancellor, all elected by the national and state councils for their outstanding work in one of the two councils. Of and by the seven national counselors, one is elected each year to be president. It is more of an honorary title than anything else.
So this is pretty much how it works, with all the upsides and downsides of such a system.

@Sarah-H Polictics in Australia is a bit complicated at the moment. Both of the major parties are becoming more radical. The ‘convervative’ party is in government at the moment, but our Prime Minister really ought to be in the other party. Also the senate is very hostile, and there are numerous people from strange small parties. More than there every has been before.
I think it’s similar to your situation in that people want change and are voting for people the media hate.

We heard more on the media about the American election than our own, and Trump isn’t well liked in general. The only politician over here who says anything good about him (there’s plenty who say nothing) is one of the few conservatives, I really trust. The media don’t like him either.

Personally I’m very conservative, though just trying to stick to an old position isn’t all that great. You actually have to move in the right direction. And I’m not Republican, for the sole reason that Australia isn’t a republic. And I support the Christian democratic Party, a small Christan party that has some members at state level.

And right now everyone’s trying to make a big issue of the marriage issue. One party wants to put ti out for all the people to vote on, the other says we can’t be trusted to do that, and it would cause violence and hatred. So we’re being governed by elites who don’t really care what we think.

@the-bean That’s very interesting. So different from our system. It’s neat that you actually have Christian parties. Here, many Christians are Republican, but I don’t know if the Republican party itself is Christian.

                                @anna-brie
Uhoh, you have the marriage issue over there, too? It’s scary here. If you’re in business, you literally have to support and promote and celebrate gay marriage, or you get sued for being discriminatory. So many small Christian businesses have been shut down for that, especially bakeries. And, at least in public schools, people can use whichever bathroom and locker room they feel like, which is disgusting. I hope that doesn’t happen in Australia.

Yeah, don’t believe what the media says about Trump. He’s a worldly businessman who has led a rather ungodly life, but he isn’t evil and corrupt. He’s very smart, and I believe he truly loves our country. He is pro-Christian. He is NOT liberal. He is for Israel, and wants to rebuild the relationship that Obama hurt with them. I’m glad he’s president.

@Sarah-H Don’t worry, I’m not planning to start a huge argument. 😀 But may I ask, why don’t you consider Trump evil and corrupt if you know he’s led an ungodly life and is worldly?
Also what do you take to mean he’s pro-Christian? I know he’s said things that sound like it, but he’s also said he’s never asked God for forgiveness, and that he doesn’t think he’s done anything that needs God’s forgiveness. To say he hasn’t asked forgiveness is bad enough, but to say he doesn’t need it is terrible, especially considering all the awful immoral things he’s done.
I know it’s possible to support Christians without being one yourself, but someone so horribly unChristian as Trump can’t have real support for Christians, I think.
Trump’s a proven pathological liar too, so we can’t really believe he’ll actually do all the good, non-liberal things he said he’d do. He’s already modified and/or gone back on so many of his earlier campaign promises.
I know the media lies, but much of what it’s reported on Trump is true.
