I need to develop core strength if I’m ever going to get good at jiu-jitsu. Every time someone writes and posts 500 words on this thread, I will drop everything I am doing and hold a plank until I face-plant.
You can’t post something you’ve already written, it has to be new if you want me to suffer 😄
Also if anyone makes it to 5,000 words, I will draw a character of their choice in an axolotl onesie. Like this:
ANY character.

August 22, 2024 at 8:25 am #184809HERE YOU GO!!! NOW DO A PLANK!!!!
Ethan followed his brother, and the two wormed there way through the small entrance into the fort. Ethan sat up and saw that Jonas was looking in an open cardboard box. “Hey, I remember this!” He pulled out a flashlight and tossed it to Ethan.
Ethan raised his eyebrows. “Dad gave me this on my tenth birthday. Wow, I never thought I’d see it again.”
“Hey, my rubber-band collection!” exclaimed Jonas. He pulled one of the bands from the bag and shot Ethan with it.
Ethan picked up the rubber band to shot his brother back, but when he stretched it, the band snapped. “The weather certainly hasn’t been kind to them,” he remarked.
Jonas pulled out a notebook and flipped it open. “Goodness, look at how bad you used to draw people!”
Ethan was testing all the rubber-bands in the bag, but he leaned over Jonas’s shoulder and looked at the stick figures. “That’s not that bad.”
“That’s because you still draw like that,” chuckled Jonas.
“I do not,” replied Ethan, testing another rubber-band against his brother’s back.
Jonas ignored him and kept on flipping through the notebook. “Look, it’s a record of all the day’s passwords we had for entering the fort, and a log of who was out when.” Jonas flipped another page. “Good grief, it says here that I was killed in action on May 5th eight years ago.”
“Well that’s funny. What are you now, a ghost?” asked Ethan, trying out another rubber-band on his brother.
“If I am, you are too. Captain Ethan was shot in the chest seven times and died in front of the gate.”
Ethan raised an eyebrow and shot Jonas again.
“Oh look, I came back to life in time to be drowned dead in a flood,” remarked Jonas, cheerily.
“I always knew there was something off about you. It must be all the brain trauma,” Ethan said dryly.
Jonas continued flipping through the notebooks, and Ethan crawled further into the fort. He found a bin and opened the lid. “Oh man, Jonas, you’ve got to see this.”
Jonas looked up just in time to catch the stuffed cat Ethan threw at him. The little animal was threadbare, and the stuffing was all wadded up, leaving some places very lumpy and others with no padding at all. Jonas stared at the cat for a long moment, and then began laughing. “Well, of all things! It’s Ginger!”
Ethan was digging around in the bin, and a few moments later he lifted out a small stuffed dog in no better shape then the cat. “Willaby! I thought I threw him away!”
“Mom woulda’ let you do that,” grinned Jonas. “She must have rescued these fellas when we grew too old to play with them.”
“Look, here’s an army jacket she made for Ginger,” said Ethan, pulling out a small coat sewn out of an old burlap sack.
Jonas abandoned his box and joined Ethan. “Hey! My old sailor hat!” he exclaimed, pulling a white hat out of the box. “Remember when mom made this?”

Btw, I have some other miserableness things you could do if you get tired of the plank.
Oh, I wrote 500 more words while you were busy with all that. Should I post them!!?

August 22, 2024 at 8:36 am #184814Well if you’re still alive…. I did another 500.
You messed with a speed writer girl. That was a bad idea.
I will leave you alone now if you want.

August 22, 2024 at 9:12 am #184815This is hilarious, which feels a bit mean to say, since I’m not the one doing planks, but it is.
But really this is kind of a good idea XDAny noun can become a verb if you don't care enough.

My little sister patted my back and knocked me down like a leaf XD
I have the strength of a leaf, truly

No, I cAn tAkE iT. It’s FiNe. It’s totally FinE. Seriously though, you can do this as much as you want. The more I work my muscles, the better.
Yeah it’s funny XD I had the idea a couple nights ago, but wasn’t sure if I should do it. Even if this doesn’t solve my core problem, it might get me started.

August 22, 2024 at 10:46 am #184825This is an… interesting idea. I don’t know if I will participate, but seems you have a few other volunteers.
August 22, 2024 at 12:02 pm #184827Oh, i need to get some writing done so I will definitely be participating. Maybe I’ll write today and then wait a day or to for the soreness from today to go away before posting XD it looks like you’ve already had a workout here

August 22, 2024 at 12:05 pm #184828So are you strengthening your core to increase your balance in jiu-jitsu or for other reasons? Cuz I’m a volleyball player and have some really good reps for balance… 😏 (only a few core exercises tho)
