I’ve been wanting to start a sort of online KP book club. So basically we would read the same books at the same time and then discuss them. I think it would be interesting because other people would bring their unique experiences, thoughts, and observations to the discussion instead of just reading a book on your own and not getting those different perspectives.
I have some ideas on how we’d decide which books to read — I think a good idea is to ask for suggestions, then do a google forms quiz to see who wants what and the majority wins. If somebody has another idea, we’ll put our heads together and figure something out 🙂
Generally KP groups like this need a couple days or weeks to figure it out (just oberserving here) so I’m thinking that if people wanted to make a book club we could maybe start in April?
One thing I like to do with book clubs is read the same book at the same time, but not the same chapters. That way everyone can read at their own pace. (I always read ahead anyways lol) However, if you prefer it the other way, we can totally completely do that 🙂

The squirrels are collecting more nuts than usual this winter. I've already lost 3 relatives.

Yes, I was thinking about that as well. I personally am fine with magic as long as it doesn’t portray “dark magic” positively. For example, I love the Chronicles of Narnia, which includes magic as part of the christian allegory. However, I do know that there are some people who are not okay with that and we will definitely have to find a solution to that. I’m sure we can find books that don’t include too much magic or even magic at all.
Another problem is that a lot of books have sexual content and other innapropriate stuff. A lot of well written and famous books, even, are like that. I would not want to suggest to people as young as thirteen to read “A Handmaiden’s Tale,” for example, even though it’s a very influential book. There are a lot of pretty clean classics, though. Well, I guess it depends on what you mean by clean.
As for swearing, I do think we might have a little bit of difficulty, but not really too much.
Also, I think some young authors here would be delighted if we read some of their books! 🙂

Quite honestly, me neither. I am an eighth grader. I babysit for ten dollars an hour. (And that’s not USD either — mine’s worth less.)
If I can’t find it at Goodwill for two dollars or get it at my library, I’m
not able to get the bookout of money.So I share your concern. We definitely would not read a rare collector book usually sold for a thousand dollars with about a hundred copies left in the world lol

I am also fine with most magic, including Harry Potter, though I know a lot of Christians are not. I’m also okay with some swearing, but not a lot. Stormlight Archive has about the maximum amount of swearing that I’m willing to read. As for sexual content, I’ve read To Kill a Mockingbird, (it was amazing), which is about my limit.
Also, I think some young authors here would be delighted if we read some of their books! 🙂

I like the idea! I can’t guarantee that I’ll have the time to participate, but I may try depending on what book is decided upon. (Or if it’s a book I’ve already read, then it’ll be easier for me to join because I wouldn’t actually have to read it again in depth lol)
Since I’m no longer in high school, my parents no longer dictate what books I’m allowed to read, but I’m a little picky about what I consume. (I don’t do Harry Potter and I mostly stick with Christian authors, but I’m not opposed to trying something non-Christian) I have read To Kill a Mockingbird, as well as Uncle Tom’s Cabin. I enjoyed both of those (well, as much as anyone can enjoy as difficult a book as UTC).

I love this idea! I’m not sure I’d be able to participate every time, but I’ll try. Content-wise, I’m okay with most magic (I’ve read Harry Potter), I’m okay with some swearing in a book (i just say something different in my mind or skip over it) but of course there’s a limit, and on the romance side of things, I’m okay with reading kissing, as long as it’s within certain boundaries.
I have a feeling that finding a book we’re all okay reading wouldn’t be too hard. There are a lot of good books out there. (:

While I think this is a really fun idea and I’d love to participate, I just have got wayyyy too much on my plate right now. Mayyybe this summer I could join if my schedule’s cleared up a bit.

Cool! We’ll definitely try and find books by christian authors — I was thinking some of C. S. Lewis’ works, not the Chronicles of Narnia but the other books he wrote. (He wrote quite a few which were mostly metaphors for the christian faith.)

Great! I agree — thinking about the great multitude of books out there, we’re going to have no problem finding something. I mean, according to whatever popped up when I google searched something, 129,864,880 books have been published since the invention of the printing press.

A book club does sound fun, but my schedule is too full for me to be able to reliably read, so I’m gonna sit this out. If you happen to read a book that I’ve already read, I might pop in here with some thoughts when you’re discussing, if that’s okay. Hope you all have a fun time with this!

That’s great! I think a lot of people don’t agree with magic, so we’re going to keep those books out of the suggestions and hopefully avoid them so that everyone can read each book.
I was thinking any genre people wanted, as long as it’s appropriate. Ultimately, we’ll just vote on the options, so if people don’t like a certain genre they’re not going to vote on it and we won’t read it anyways. I don’t really read a certain genre exclusively — I mostly enjoy a well written book that pulls me in with good characters and a good plot.
