This seems like a fun idea maybe since I have more time over the summer I can try it out.

I mostly use python, JS and HTML although I am taking a class on Java next year. I mostly use my programming for my classes (ie Ap compsci) for computer security (white hat hacking). I’m also on my schools robotics team (we made it to worlds last season) so even though I’m on the build team I’m trying to lead Java so that I can r…[Read more]

I Also listen to a good amount of NPR on my way back from school. So I kinda listen to secular music in a way I guess… Hehe
I think the only real music (I mostly listen to music when I’m doing computer programming related stuff or managing stuff) I listen to is musicals. Right now I’ve been listening to parade and Hamilton a lot…[Read more]

I think you should check out Tim Keller or David Platt I like to listen to them a lot on my way to school and they frequently mention this kind of stuff.

If it helps I can tell you what @otherworldlyHistorian does. (right now I am working on scripts for an informational podcast series so it doesn’t really have a plot)
for otherworldlyHistorian’s book Kharvia b1 (it doesn’t have an actual title yet) he is making a chapter-by-chapter plot summary and using a spreadsheet to keep…[Read more]

I never read twilight (not much of a romance person) but it did sell really well and the books were well received when they were released. It is true though that the success of the twilight book series led to an increase of publisher publishing vampire/supernatural romances because that after twilight released those types books sold…[Read more]

Im not sure Im the best to help with this but @otherworldlyHistorian should have something good to say about plotting (he is a bit of a crazy plotter)

A lot of Dystopias in the ya section feel like Hunger Games knock offs is because hunger games was successful so then a bunch of publishers pushed through a bunch of similar books to try and capitalise off of the success of the hunger games. The same thing happened with Twilight and Vampire Romances a wile back.

Yeah I mostly read adult section stuff now.
If you want something to read (and I know I have said this a lot) I will have to recommend the Blade Itself By Joe Abercrombie. The simple way to explain it is an antithesis of Lord of the Rings. I think it’s really good because the writing is done really well and the characters are m…[Read more]

I will say an interesting way to think about it is that basically the middle grade section includes the PG books.
Meanwhile the YA section includes the books that libraries bookstores and publishers think will appeal to teenagers regardless of their rating (mostly though this would include PG-13 rated books)
And the adult section includes the…[Read more]

So the reason KOTLC (and Harry Potter) are in the middle grade section is because they place booms into sections based off of the first book in a series.
I can say that I also did enjoy mysterious Benedict Society. I was thinking about some good middle grade books and might I suggest Land of Stories or Sisters…[Read more]

I think a general rule of thumb for charecter deaths can be some up in that your character death should cause you (as the author) to be legitimately sad (or at least make you feel in some way) and not just be like well I checked if a box yay. On a topic of if you just want to find a way to add urgency and lack of…[Read more]

Well I have some time right now in between the end of my AP Euro test (the most fun I’ve had all week) and going to my next class so I will try to make a proposition.

@starshiness I’m pretty sure you are right. One interesting thing is that there is no overarching rating board for books like there is for movies or video games. Instead books are placed into the sections that they are by publishers, libraries, and bookstores. When trying to decide where to place a book (either the children’s, you…[Read more]
