Yah. I totally get what you’re saying. I actually write everything like a movie. Like it shows everything as it is happening and (unfortunately) I barely enter into my viewpoint character’s mind (something I need to work on). However, once I read the book about showing and telling I really wanted to . . . liberate(?) my…[Read more]

Okay I’ll respond with a more comprehensive reply later, but the point of a lot of summaries is that you’re describing perpetual happenings. Like as in it happens over and over again. So one scene might not cut it. A summary also gives a chance for the viewpoint character’s voice to shine.

Focus on your characters.
From what I can see you’re a pantser. You write the best by the seat of your pants (writing through instinct rather than being a plotter). Also, you said you want to write this for NaNoWriMo?
I suggest that you should focus on your characters. Flesh ’em out. Give them unique quirks. Enlarge their weaknesses. Add…[Read more]

Hey @Jess! I’ll make this post a little shorter. The updated concept sounds much better but there’re some things I noticed.
Concept: Having an original concept is hard isn’t it? Yeaah. Well there’s “nothing new under the sun.” We’re just remixing ideas. So don’t be too worried about one part of your story sounding like one series and another part…[Read more]

Can I add something @Daeus? It’s about overviews. Or summaries. Or telling (instead of showing). After reading Showing & Telling: Learn How to Show & When to Tell for Powerful & Balanced Writing by Laurie Alberts I believe that summaries is rather essential to stories. I know that contradicts “show don’t tell” but hear me out.
You need to use…[Read more]

Hey @jess, Here’s the deal. The #1 thing when brainstorming a story is to accept all ideas and then reject 80% of them. The reason why you have to reject 80% of them is because half are cliches and the other half won’t work. We live in a cliche-ridden world and we’re bound to copy them. But always remember that no idea is too crazy (even if it is…[Read more]

@david oh wow, that’s really cool looking! Great job with the coloring. I really need to practice more with colored pencils, I lean towards markers more. But I really love how this looks. The falcon’s face looks awesome and I really like the sky.

I live in Indiana! Everyone’s saying they live in the best state. I’ve only ever lived in two so I guess I’m not the best judge of things, but I have to say Indiana is pretty great. I love it here. (I am never moving back to Florida ever.)
With all the pages here I don’t really have the time to read it all, but skimming through a few, it’s really…[Read more] -
