Mark Kamibaya replied to the topic How to write song lyrics – Help! in the forum Music 7 years, 5 months ago
@warrioroftherealm This is really cliched to say, but just freewrite. Sit down at a laptop or use longhand, and begin writing your heart out. What are you trying to say? Who are you trying to say it to? How does the Bible tie into this? What’s God’s view on this? What are different perspectives on this topic?
For me, if I force myself to write…[Read more]

I haven’t written a song in a few years, but there’s a few things I can tell you.
First–don’t rush it. Maybe you’re one of those people that can just sit down with an idea and write it out, but maybe not. Sit back, pray, and focus on what draws you to the subject on hand.
That brings me to my next point. If it’s a Christian song, which it…[Read more]

Hi all! Happy Easter!
He is Risen!And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into…

@warrioroftherealm
Talk to me a little more. What exactly is slowing you down or what are you unsatisfied with?A HUGE part of writers block for me is not knowing how to tie everything together (I have a VERY intricate backstory because the story is about uncovering a mystery). For me, I had to figure out a way to tie all of my main character’s…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm Sorry to hear you’re dealing with Writer’s Block, because I just came out of a dry spell myself. It definitely isn’t the best feeling in the world. -_-
I feel like there really is no ‘best way’ to deal with the dreaded Writer’s Block, since I’ve found it seems different for every writer. Some ways work better, while others…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm Oh, dang. I feel for you.
I second what @jane-maree said. I myself am just recovering from a debilitating bout of writers block, and what I ended up having to do was surrender my work to the Lord and let Him do what He wanted. It does amazing things for stress. 🙂 -

@warrioroftherealm this was me a few months ago. To be honest I have only one point of advice, and it worked perfectly for me.
Pray. Commit your struggles to God. Ask him to work through you.
(I know it might sound a bit stuck-up Christian to say so, but that’s my tip.) It’ll work, trust me. -

@warrioroftherealm Plotting may be one of your best helps. It will give you more confidence in writing and will take a lot of the thought work out of writing, which can be exhausting.
Also, if you have any distractions nearby while you’re writing, take those away.
Never edit while you’re writing. Always do it later.
Accountability can help.…[Read more]

@Warrioroftherealm *solemn face* This is very serious. Let me think…
Actually it’s a very real possibility that you’re taking yourself too seriously. One of the things that really slows me down with my work is obsessing over tiny, tiny things— like word choice, or the eighteenth layer of subtext. Or even sometimes spending an hour groaning…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm Hmm. What type of writer’s block. Like, your brain feels dead and you want to collapse on the ground and gasp? Or do you feel restless and can’t stay in front of the computer? Or do you have great concentration but aren’t feeling satisfied with any ideas? Or something else?

Thanks @warrioroftherealm! Maybe I shouldn’t try to learn First Aid from comedies. 😛 My character has another character with him at the moment of his shoulder dislocation, but I doubt she has any idea what to do… so I’ll have to do some research.
I have to say, I think it’s simultaneously fantastic and hilarious that there’s a community where…[Read more] -

@warrioroftherealm I’m no expert, but I did watch “Mom’s Night Out.” Which, if you haven’t seen that movie, you should watch it. It’s a completely clean Christian comedy. And it stars Sean Astin (Sam from Lord of the Rings), so it gets bonus points in my book.
But anyway, in that movie, a guy dislocates his shoulder and gets it back into place by…[Read more] -

@dragon-snapper, LOL!
@warrioroftherealm, yeah, it totally answers the question. I like that concept. Especially if that is something the MC is usually really good at (sword fighting that is). forcing him out of his comfort zone is a great story choice. It can also force you to think of creative ways for him to get out of difficult situations,…[Read more]
