@kate-flournoy Haha! I’m a mind reader too now. 😀
@bethanysinkyroses First, I think the Yellowstone setting could work. As far as the plot goes, my suggestion would be to make it a “back and forth” plot. What I mean is, have two distinct spheres for your story: one, the sphere of the MC’s interaction with her mother; the other, the sphere of…[Read more]

@jane-maree @seekjustice I’m headed out now. I finished editing a chapter, and sent off a whole lot of story-related emails that needed to be sent. Bye!

@seekjustice Ah…wish I’d done that. XD Some of the silly mistakes–I had three names for one character.

She can be a stereotype on the outside without being one on the inside. If she isn’t a POV character, maybe she could have someone she can confide in.

@bethanysinkyroses I’d agree with what Mark and Kate said. You’ve got a setting, but you don’t have any sort of plot. Predicaments alone are very boring. The predicaments need to build on each other. The outcome of one should lead to another, gradually making things worse and worse.
I also agree that clashing fantasy and slice of life isn’t a…[Read more]

Brutally honest post
A four. It’s sprawling and epic and boring. It seems like you want to tackle too many things at once. I wouldn’t worry about weirdness. But if you (personally) believe the story is as you described above, then I think it’ll be too big to handle. You can still keep (probably) all those elements, but if you think that’s what…[Read more]

Only if you make it cliche. Cliche means it’s overdone. It’s something the audience has seen before. It’s predictable. So, sure, go ahead and start with a “cliche” premise. But as the story progresses make it unpredictable. Then those surprising moments will be what the audience will remember. Not your “cliche: premise.

@kballen Hi! Are you joining me? 😀
I’m working on my WIP, on a very slow and very annoying sequence on scenes. It’ll pick up eventually, but these humps are…hard to get over. 😛 -

Hey people! A good song for writing (in my opinion) is Time by Hans Zimmer –from Inception, an awesome movie (also in my opinion). It starts out very quiet, but it builds! And power!
