@loopylin I believe horror has supernatural elements whereas thriller is more of a crime thing, like the difference between a ghost and a killer. The premise of your story sounds a lot like Bendy and the Ink Machine, but I would totally read it!
Aye, I believe you can also finish a book one day!

@loopylin Hey there! Another Lin! Yeah, Alice in Wonderland is definitely on the surreal side and is One of The Books Of All Time. Oo, you do horror too? I have some half-written short stories that try to be a bit on the horror side, but I feel like a lot of mine edge on thriller instead.
I do have several finished books, but nothing published…[Read more]

@mineralizedwritings Lol yeah it’s something similar to Alice in Wonderland or something like that, where nothing makes sense.

@esther-c Whoa, that’s really long! I really struggle with writing long works, lol. I always barely meet whatever word count I want them to be.

@esther-c I’m pretty sure it’s a word, lol. Yeah, the family drama was always really emotional for me.

@mineralizedwritings Absurd comedy is basically a type of surrealism where the comedic part comes from the ridiculousness or unlikeliness of the situation. I’ve seen some great shows that are like that, but I’m not too sure how to implement it in writing yet, fufu.
@booksandbeakers Nice to meet you! Your WIP sounds quite interesting! Does it have…[Read more]

@godlyfantasy12 She’s tearing apart the WIP, haha. Looks like I’ll need to rework a lot of it.

@gracie-j I love the vibes from it! (Currently my sister is tearing it apart so I could use some encouragement…lol 🥲)

@mineralizedwritings Wow! You’re good at drawing! And your WIP sounds quite interesting, though I don’t think I want to live in that world, haha. I prefer giving critiques in Google Docs, so if you ever send it in that format, I’d be glad to look at it!
To be honest, I feel like most of my “slice-of-life” plots are full of just drama and sadness,…[Read more]

@esther-c Whoa, I love that aesthetic! The life of Jonah would be really cool to see, since it’s so vague what is given in the Bible! I’d love to see someone’s interpretation of it.
I’m not really one to write Biblical fiction, but the only one I’ve ever really wanted to write was the story of David and Absalom. Every time I read it in the Bible,…[Read more]

@gracie-j le gasp
Sheeeee that looks insane! I feel like now I have to incorporate roses and a pendant into the story 😮

@mineralizedwritings Heya! Nice to meet you! Did you draw your profile picture? It looks very cute. I’d also love to hear more about your WIP at some point; I don’t meet many dystopian writers.
I have been writing for maybe around seven years? I write a lot of different things, usually fantasy, but also crime, slice-of-life, sometimes sci-fi… I…[Read more]

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic I'm doing CWW this year. Is anyone else doing it? in the forum General Writing Discussions 1 year, 10 months ago
@sarafini Nice! I’ll most likely be working on my current crime novel, because right now I only have like 2k words and I really need to jumpstart it (or at least get more of it done than I have now if I wanna finish it on time) and probably some short stories here or there. How many books is your series going to be?

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic New year, new WIP anyone? in the forum General Writing Discussions 1 year, 10 months ago
@mineralizedwritings Thank you! Yeah, it’s a pretty intense creative writing class at my school, so I’m a little nervous (because of time management), but I’m also really excited to get started.

Yo. So it’s been a while since I’ve been back on this forum, so I just wanted to ask. What’s going on. I haven’t received any newsletters, no new articles, stories, or question of the week… Who are all the new people. Do you guys want to introduce yourself to me or something. Any major events go on while I wasn’t here? Etc.
Heck, idk who to…[Read more]

@mineralizedwritings I finished my last main work around December, so I’ve started another WIP, which I’m also going to be writing for a creative writing class I’m having this semester, so hopefully I’ll finish it before summer hits!

@gracie-j 👉👈Can-can I request a mock cover – from yours truly? You know which novel I want one for…right?

@sarafini I signed up, but idk how much time I’ll have since that’s when my semester starts, but I’ll try! What are you going to work on?

Linyang Zhang replied to the topic Writing out of chronological order? in the forum Plotting 2 years, 1 month ago
@joy-caroline I usually write from beginning to end of a book unless there’s a pressing scene I wanna write, though those scenes aren’t necessarily in chronological order. It just gives me a better sense of progression than jumping around, though ofc you’re free to do whatever you want.
