@kina-lamb *Let’s see…how late can I be in replying??? Hmmm* 😛 Sorry.
Ah, yes. Barbara Manatee. And Hairbrush.
Ummm…I can’t seem to think of anything immediately… I must have went around wearing a protective suit of armor for most of my life and just can’t remember that being the case. 😛

@kate-flournoy Ah–I missed your original comment saying it’s Method #1. I think it depends on how you view it. Now that I think about it a bit more, they probably are both versions of Method #1. From a plot-based standpoint, they’re more Method 2, but from a theme-standpoint they’re likely both Method 1. Which is actually a really nice way of…[Read more]

@jane-maree Something like that could work. You could also try the Lord-of-the-Rings method of making another figure under that villain a more prominent villain for the heroes to have to fight against, a la Saruman or Gollum. There is a place for the overlord character type to remain bland as long as the focus isn’t really on him as a villain.

@hope Ah; okay. He probably does have a bit of a tempting role, then, even if he is more solidly foil than tempter.

Thanks, @graciegirl ! 🙂 I’ve been thinking about working on a theme for my next draft. I wrote this story pantser style, so I didn’t really think about a theme when I wrote it. It was fun. 🙂

Thanks, @daeus . I was thinking that I could leave the structure the way it was if I just developed the story and characters a bit more, so it was nice to find that someone else thought it would work. 🙂
I’m not sure which route I will take. I like how focusing more on one character (either the princess or the peddler) would allow me to…[Read more]

I’m glad you enjoyed my story, @winter-rose ! 😀 Thanks for sharing your perspective, and giving me some things to think about. 🙂
Thanks, @jane-maree . That was nice of you to do that. 🙂 I’ll be sure to give it a look when I prepare to write the next draft.

@Aratrea Got it. He does tempt Ethaniel with the idea of giving him a name, but it is more trying to give what he thinks Ethaniel wants than trying to convince him to his own point of view.
