@SleepwalkingMK 😀 My brain has a penchant for holding on to random information. (Especially related to people I like. 😉 )
On a certain afternoon, in the late springtime, the bell upon stall Moat House was heard ringing at an unaccustomed hour.

OOH @SleepwalkingMK I know that one! I wasn’t playing ’cause I don’t technically have time but I can’t resist. Till We Have Faces. 😀 Your favorite book.

@sleepwalkingmk Awesome. Yes, those look like good motivations, especially the protection aspect. A false sense of selflessness can go a long way to creating a compelling villain.

@sleepwalkingmk Okay–good work there. Your revision of the first EiL is looking better too; I’m seeing the connections more between obedience & the story’s theme.
We’ll be covering villains and other major characters later on in the course, but one quick thing to think about with regards to your villain: how is his EiL going to be related to the…[Read more]

Hey KeePers!
You should have gotten an email about this last night, but I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of our fourth panel discussion that’s happening this upcoming Monday on self-publishing and writing.
In short, we have three self-published authors (Kim Vandel, Rachel Rittenhouse, and Jeannette DiLouie) who are going to be on…[Read more]

@sleepwalkingmk I think your revision of #1 works well and drives at what I was looking for. The character’s complete obedience to her parents is part of her personality, but stems from more issues than just the theme, which is why I don’t think it’s part of the answer to your FQ.
Also I’m a huge fan of #3. It’s a very sympathetic answer that I…[Read more]

@sleepwalkingmk Good set of answers there. I might slightly alter the “family/parents” answer to focus more on the value of family than an un-nuanced approach to obedience, though. Whether you choose to always obey your parents or not seems to be a different issue than if you view them as the most important thing in your life.
How would you…[Read more]

Hey all,
One of our goals for this year is to better cultivate our forum community. Part of that has to do with re-organizing forum topics and finding a better forum software that’s mobile-friendly and offers other benefits like a list of active topics. But part of that also has to do with getting more people on the forum, as we’d love to watch…[Read more]

Thank you to everyone! These were all really helpful and have given me a lot to work through! 🙂
@sleepwalkingmk. That is something that I had not considered! Thanks. I should have thought of that from their angle. It would probably fix the theme, or at least make a start towards it.@kate-flournoy. I will be keeping the two cents. They…[Read more]

Aaand now that that’s over . . .
For the last week of the month of June, I’ll be posting random tips that might actually be useful (unlike my deconstruction of sub-genres) :). I’ll tag random people so they can follow this thread throughout the last week of Sci-Fi Month and (hopefully) read the sub-genre deconstructions that I posted earlier.…[Read more]

Hey people. *tips hat grinningly*
There’s this book I just read called Eats, Shoots and Leaves, by Lynn Truss. It’s non-fiction—about punctuation. But it’s not a long or dull read at all, and is funny and very informative/helpful. Especially for people like writers who’d use punctuation more than usual. 😉
The only objection would be: it has a…[Read more] -

Hello everybody tagged below!
I’ve got a bunch of unfinished drafts of stories (plus the finished draft for the Pilot for Aquila) and I was wondering if any of you would like to alpha-read some of them (and, perhaps, beta-read the finished draft). I need input on what I’m working on because I’ve got some stories I’m stuck on.
So, for those of…[Read more]

So, I read some of the poems y’all suggested. (I loved the Wreck of the Hesperus). And I tried one of my own. It’s a bit silly, and I don’t like the ‘magic’ and ‘tragic’ rhyme at all, but for lack of a better one, I left it. Maybe someone can help me change it? But how do you all like it?
