@jenwriter17 Hold up, what if the government and the underground/resistance people are both bad? What if the government offers “peace and safety” and the resistance people off “freedom” but you will die in the end no matter who you choose, but both organizations want to control everyone? What if both organizations are secretly working together?…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien Have you ever heard of Rochelle Barlow? She’s got quite a few resources on ASL. So, there’s something you might be able to look into.

@jenwriter17 That’s a pretty cool idea! However, it sounds a lot like the plot of Logan’s Run. With a twist though, it could become very unique.

@jenwriter17 It is a little slow in the beginning, but it does get a bit faster and has a bit more intrigue in the plot the further you go. I will admit though, that it’s not for everyone. For instance, my sister, whom I’m reading a half-chapter to a chapter each night to, doesn’t particularly care for it. It doesn’t have enough action in it for her.

@jenwriter17 I also recommend the Wrinkle in Time series, with addend that the third book in the series, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, is my favorite.
You can always go old school with H.G. Wells. While the “science” in his books is questionable in its realism, his books are still fun reads.

@jenwriter17 My vote is for #4. They have all piqued my interest, but #4 has got me very curious.

I concur with everything that @ethryndal said about bows and arrows. Bows are very difficult to pull back, and longbows are much harder to pull back than a recurve bow (hence the longer range). Many movies and shows have a character holding a bow at full-draw for several seconds up to a few minutes at a time. This is…[Read more]

@rochellaine Considering that it is in the 1940s at the height of WWII, socialists were definitely not liked, especially if someone thought they were fascist. To my knowledge, the only place that socialists were “safe” was in Hollywood.
Being engaged to a later discovered communist during the Red Scare could definitely work. But it would mean…[Read more]

@rochellaine A couple of possibilities considering it is the 1940s is what if Lillian was friends with a socialist or an african-american? That could certainly hurt her social status and cause her to be ostracized from her family.

I’ve recently been introduced to Centurian’s Wife by Janette Oke and Davis Bunn. Even though I am only about 1/3 of the way through the book, I absolutely love it! Here’s a summary of it:
Leah is servant in Pontius Pilate’s household, a personal servant of his wife. She was content to live like that for the rest of her life, but the crucifixion…[Read more]

@gabbyj I have this one character. He’s a sweet guy, he’s always been a sweet guy. He’s kind, he’s cheerful, and at times somewhat of a klutz. However, he can become very serious in the blink of an eye if the situation calls for it. He’s the medieval version of special forces, but he would prefer to be with his birds trying to catch bugs down by…[Read more]

@aislinn-mollisong I chose Kerry because one of the meanings of that name is dark-haired. She has black hair. And I chose Dagny because it means New Day. I thought that was a good choice for someone who is starting their life over from the very beginning.

@notawriter There was actually another story I wrote that had quite a bit to do with the Danes, and I bought an edition of the Danish history. There was a lot of interesting things I read in that. Combining history and what is written in epic sagas (such as Beowolf, which I actually enjoyed) was interesting and quite fun. There was quite a bit of…[Read more]

@notawriter I do have part of her character arc planned out. It’s kinda different from what I’m used to. I do know that people with amnesia often have a change of personality and likes, and writing that while having people know her as she is now and others knowing how she was before is throwing me for a wee bit of a loop.
Turns out this story…[Read more]
