Sarah Spradlin replied to the topic Removing the ads in the forum Questions and Support 10 years, 3 months ago
@Daeus — Yes! You should be seeing ads in the side-bars and I think occasionally embedded in the articles. The ads are part of affiliate programs with different sites. We’re working on developing that more and more. Do you have any tips or ideas for different affiliate programs?
@sarah-h — No problem! I actually had an ad just like that pop up…[Read more]

@Sarah-h Lamplighter Publishing carries the “real” version of The Hidden Hand. They compiled both books into one (and kept it unabridged). Well worth the money and time!

@Sarah-h – No, book 5 is not the end one. Book 6 is. But I have read 1-4 miss 5 and then 6, so I know how it ends. I haven’t read The Young Underground so it wasn’t too sad. 🙂
And yes, Carry On, Mr. Bowditch is a great book for boys and girls. -

@Sarah-h – Carry On, Mr. Bowditch is about Nathaniel Bowditch’s (a real person) journey from his modest beginnings, to his first sea voyage, to his rigorous self-education, to the triumphs of his fine-tuned mastery of navigation and eventual publication of his famous work, The American Practical Navigator (also known as the “Sailor’s Bible”).…[Read more]

@sarah-h, An irritable colonel, an very very independent adopted daughter of his, a wily criminal, a malicious colonel, an impoverished young physician and his mother, and many other unique characters to whom unique things happen. An excellent story.

Wow! Looks like I have a LOT of reading to do…I haven’t heard of half of those books.
@belegteleri Yes! The Viking Quest series was good. I wish there were more books about vikings!
@sarah-h Twice Freed is one of my absolute favorites! Just about anything by Patricia St. John is amazing, though. Yes, Douglas Bond wrote the Crown and Covenant…[Read more]

I love the Scarlet Pimpernel books too, @sarah-h! And I actually thought the romance was pretty well done, compared to a lot of other books.
I’ve also read Within the Palace Gates, and I did enjoy it— but I have a little bit of a personal problem with authors taking a Biblical story and filling it in with their imagination. I’m sure it’s not…[Read more] -

Anything by Lois Walfrid Johnson is great, though I think Viking Quest is my favorite. And I’ll back up @sarah-h on the Zion Covenant and Zion Chronicles, though I had to wait for a bit until I was old enough to read the second one in the Chronicles.
A Night Divided by Jennifer A. Neilsen (a family separated by the Berlin wall. Pretty…[Read more] -

@Sarah-h— well, there are pros and cons both ways. If you have them get married at the end of the book, you end on a really sweet, fulfilling note.
If you have them get married in the middle, you can show the development of their relationship as they are married, and have them grow a lot closer than they were when they were just ‘courting’.
I…[Read more] -

Or maybe I’ll just stop assuming people understand my very subtle references to things I already said. Yes, I’ll try to do that. (…though I had a lot of fun)
@sarah-h What Kate said.
Pluuuuuuuuuuus….
Show don’t tell. Show don’t tell. Show don’t tell. Show don’t tell. Show don’t tell.

Um … I meant you @Sarah-h. oooooops!
Thanks for those clarifications. I believe that there were giants after the flood, I’m just not convinced that some of those creatures you mentioned are their relatives.
I also don’t think you quite understood my question about what makes these evil creature inherently evil. You said that it is because they…[Read more]

Well, I’m here. Don’t worry, I’m not going to replay all your former debates. I just decided to take a look at what had been happening here, and I decided that I should probably just ask a couple question for my own curiosity and maybe see if I can untangle a bit of misunderstanding I seem to detect. I enjoyed reading through this discussion. I…[Read more]

@Sarah-h— Well, no… I don’t believe that exactly. I believe magic, quite simply, is God’s power whether or not it takes the form of a prophet-like being (Moses, for example— all @reaganramm‘s points are completely valid in my opinion) or the form of a created natural system. Because even if it is a natural law thingy, it was still set in…[Read more]

I hope it didn’t seem like I wanted to suppress this topic. It is perfectly fine to talk about it on the forum. I understand that you aren’t trying to get KP to ban fantasy. I didn’t think so. Still, you seem to have a problem with the care free way they have approached something very disturbing to you. I would still suggest you bring it…[Read more]

Hi @kate-flournoy and @sarah-h,
I need to clarify that this is a great topic and worthy of contemplation and discussion. The reason I suggested it be taken to reagan first is because:
1. While what is published and talked about on KP is not necessarily in perfect alignment with the views of the KP staff, they have certainly tolerated fantasy.…[Read more]
