Emma Flournoy replied to the topic Love Triangles— what the Classical Authors knew that we don't. in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 3 months ago
@Daeus The midnight walk thingy must be something not in the movie—was it nice interaction between the two? Because there was something kind of like that in the movie, only Mr. H was totally trying to destroy (for real) Eugene. Hardly a walk…I don’t exactly see that as a redeeming quality. 😛 Maybe Mr. H was nicer in the book.

@Daeus I can’t stand Mr. Headstone. I liked Eugene pretty well; but I’ve only seen the movie. It might be different in the book (or audio book).
That triangle was just so depressing though, how it went; for me at least. Even though it was nice in the end (for some parties 😛 ) the happenings were so insane. Do you think there were any redeeming…[Read more]

Authors seem to lose sight of what love actually is, and they play it up to be some big emotions thing because the girl is so beautiful and when he’s with her, he feels this tightness in his throat and his heart begins to flutter because she smells like pine needles! *cough* Eragon… *cough cough*
@Ethryndal Oh yes. That drives me insane. I und…[Read more]

@Dragon-Snapper Oh my. 😀 But I won’t judge you either because Tolkien can indeed be hard to follow. Is this the first time you’ve read it?
I don’t know how long LotR took me…it was awhile ago and I’m seriously wanting to read it again. I think LotR is easier than the Silmarillion though ’cause it’s more immediately engaging. 😛 -

@Ethryndal Why thank you. And I happen to like peoples’ respect better than trophies, so yay. 😀

@Ethryndal Yay! You won’t regret it.
@Daeus is right though…six months is an exaggeration. I’m a slow reader too, and it only took me about a month and a half. It’s not hard if you’re really interested. 😉Congrats for being a slow reader, Daeus. That’s good. *very serious nodding* Every teensy detail about everything we must catch and…[Read more]

Emma Flournoy replied to the topic Another Book Cover! in the forum Art 9 years, 3 months ago
@Leumeister I know this is SO helpful, but, pretty much what everyone else said. 😛 Especially about the need for a question.
And do you mean, can we tell the character on the left is a girl? I think that’s what you meant. That ‘left’ made you write ‘right’. 😛
I can tell, since you mentioned it, but I might be unsure if I didn’t know. -

@S-G-Dewey I really really like the name Douglas; from what you said I think that could fit him. (I have a brother named Douglas, but I love the name even if it wasn’t one of my family members’. 😀 )
@Ethryndal START THE SILMARILLION. Happy six months indeed…but START IT. It ain’t a breeze ta get through, but it’s sure good (obviously aside…[Read more]

@Daeus I think I like the one with gold title and subtitle (the silver sword between the two gold lines just looks perfect) and silver name best, but this last one second best, so whichever. 😀
And I’d totally pick up a book with this cover in the library.

@ethryndal , I hate receiving spoilers, so I promise I won’t spill anything. 🙂 I pronounce it Thay-o-den. How about you?
@Sarah-h , I actually have an Edwin in another book I’m in the middle of, that takes place in the 1200’s! 🙂 So, I like it too.

@kate-flournoy , Douglas is really good. I guess I’m going to decide a little more on some parts of his character before I finalize, but I really like Douglas!
@ethryndal , Unfortunately, I have been cursed with changing a character’s name… from Steve to Alfred… yeah. Terrible idea, but I much prefer Alfred. It fits much better. I totally…[Read more]

Hi Kayla! I’m so glad you’ve joined us! 🙂 What kind of writing do you do? I really like your profile picture, by the way. 🙂
I enjoy writing Christian Fiction. My favorite genre is Romance, Historical, and Sci-Fi. I am currently working on a Dystopian Sci-Fi.
That’s neat! I think several people on here also have experience writing dystopian sci-fi, if you ever need help. 🙂 Christian historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, too. It’s so much fun being able to weave real-life stories of people who stood up for their faith, etc. into fiction. What is your favorite time period to write about? I…[Read more]
Cool. I’ll have to look around. 🙂
I agree. I love to go to my history book, open to a page, and create a short story about the person that is featured on that page.
My favorite time period is medieval, like Isabela of Spain. I also like creating historical fiction about characters in the Bible.
I look forward to seeing you too, when I have…[Read more]
Medieval history is so much fun to write about! Have you ever tried writing a story about a very obscure minor character in the Bible? One of my favorite books is Twice Freed by Patricia St. John, and it’s about Onesimus. It really makes the tiny book of Philemon come alive. 🙂 What are some of your favorite books?
Yes. Have you ever heard of Aksah? She was the daughter of Caleb. You can find her story in Joshua 15:16-19.
I made a short story about her.
Some is the key word. I like so many books. But I would have to say that one of my favorite books is: The Hawk and the Jewel, by Lori Wick.
