@xonos-darkgrate I know some people who would find that too graphic, but I don’t. I think there’s a good light/dark contrast and it doesn’t make me feel empathetic toward the villain so I’d say this is good so long as it’s for a good purpose. 🙂

Oh, and I didn’t read your excerpt either. If I did, I’d want to know what basic content was in it first and I might not be able to get it in anyways.

I’ll just stop in real quick to drop a few bits of meat, but if you want to hear a lot about this subject, we have several articles on it.
The thing I think is crucial to understand with content is that you want sympathy but you do not want empathy.
Sympathy is when you feel for or understand another person’s e…[Read more]

Hey!
So I haven’t read the thing, because I’m a bit of a ‘link-a-phobe’ (not you, just the internet), but my main thoughts are dark themes and darkness in literature in general is that if you’re not comfortable showing it to someone close to you, like your mom or dad or brother or sister or best friend, then it may have gone to…[Read more] -

Catwing replied to the topic Help! I don't understand my characters! in the forum Characters 8 years, 9 months ago
@shannon Maybe I need to do a character quiz thingie too. But what I did to meet my characters (since some refused to talk to me.) is write a random scene that just seems fun to write. I try to get a feel for the character and how they act (and look sometimes). Sometimes it’s a tense scene for them or it may be a fun scene. It depends on the…[Read more]

@dekreel some of those are writing weaknesses… Now you know more about my character. 🙂
Writer’s block… I don’t feel like writing. I don’t know how to get my characters out of a mess. I want to do something else. Rewriting something a few times. I need to work on Showing not Telling. -

@dekreel I have returned!!! My weaknesses? Here’s a few… Things.
Knows when not to speak, but not always when to speak.Doesn’t always plan ahead or outline. Scratch that. Hardly plans or outlines.
A lot of things she ‘plans’ are random on the spot.

@Dragon-Snapper YAS. THE MORE VILLAINS THE BETTER.
*coughs* Okay, maybe not always… but personally, since I write sprawlingly epic books with dozens of thematic threads and plotlines apiece, I usually have at least two villains. One is usually the head bad guy, but giving him an evil sidekick doesn’t hurt.
-
Daeus replied to the topic Another Question in the forum Plotting 8 years, 9 months ago
@dragon-snapper Sure, though you shouldn’t just stick two stories in one book. The two villains need to have the same goal or attack the same weakness in the protagonist or do anything else that keeps the story coherent.
