Sam Kowal replied to the topic Lack of Plot in the forum Plotting 6 years, 12 months ago
Hmm
This is hard because I never run out of ideas of things to write
Right now, I have four extra projects I’m planning that I’ve thought of ever since I’ve started the one I’m working on now… usually my problem is not finishing most of what I start and when I do it doesn’t come out masterfully… anyway
Try going to the…[Read more]

Sam Kowal replied to the topic Help! I don't understand my characters! in the forum Characters 6 years, 12 months ago
@shannon Hmm
I had the same problem! All my characters felt blank to me for awhile when I started writing. I couldn’t get them to feel distinctive when I wrote them, and I didn’t really understand them.
So, anyway, the character typing and chart… I’ve never done any of those, so I’m not sure how those can help. But, one thing I do, is to…[Read more]

Sam Kowal replied to the topic Title opinions? in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 12 months ago
@kate-flournoy I think Destroyer is quite solid, although it is really heavy hitting
The thing with it, it sounds slightly too aggressive to me. So what about Ransacker? It has kind of the same feel, but seems more “breaking” than “annihilating”, and that’s what Dunstan does to the power balance, right?

@kate-flournoy

:D that sounds pretty epic

Soo.. this is what I’ve got

Nothing amazing but, as you said maybe we can get some creative juices flowing

Triumphant

Razed (referencing the shattering balance)

Judgement (referencing the justice theme)

Cataclysmic (although maybe its not the end of the w…[Read more]

@supermonkey42 🙂 hmm
that’s an intriguing idea
I don’t think it would be confusing to readers, as long as they know exactly who’s point of view the scene is coming from. For example, especially the part where the father’s journal is written in 1st person, make it very clear which character is speaking. I have read books that have done this (the…[Read more]

@dekreel YESS
Stan is so thrilled that’s he’s, like, tearing the furniture in my house apart–STAN, THAT WAS MY BED YOU–oh never mind
The drawing is AWESOME by the way 😀 😀 😀
It’s the awesomeestist portrait of Stan and I that’s ever been conceived ;D
It really looks like Stan, too
I can’t wait to see us in the story 😀
Thanks and epic job…[Read more]

Lord of the Rings, of course, is one of my favorite ever

It’s really gripping 😀 It makes me want to read the book
And it seems like the story its summarizing would be really unique despite the fact Fairies are used kind of a lot in fantasy, so it’s Awesome
I think actually like @shannon and @kate-flournoy and you said, its too long.
And also, it seems to me the second paragraph gets into…[Read more]

Long story… Fluffy wasn’t always under Hagrids care, and Stan met him at an underground magical creatures market… and they became really good friends. It involved lots of raspberries, Stan plugging up Fluffy’s ear so his captors couldn’t lull him to sleep, and eventually they both escaped.
Yeah, Harry’s my favorite too. I do like Hermione…[Read more]

@waterlily Hmm
Probably not any that would be super helpful, but I guess, A) experiment with writing in 3rd and play around with what you like, don’t worry about having to revise stuff if you don’t like it, B), get to know your character really well and develop their personality so that you can write him/her easily and not wonder “What should…[Read more]

😀 😀 AWESOME
Yeah, I really like Harry Potter. I read the first book when I was around seven so its been with me for awhile
The first book is really good, and it gets better as you go on. The whole series kind of changes, actually, by book 7 its a lot deeper, going along with how Harry gets older😀 😀 What was your favorite part of the book? Or…[Read more]

HAHA How did Fluffy and Stan become friends?? So you know Hagrid?
My favorite character issssssss…. probably Harry lol. But I really like Ron and his brothers, too. I like it when Harry is on his broom, like when he’s playing… Quiderrich? Is that what it is? Quidditch? Something like that.
What’s your favorite part?-

Hmm
I struggle with the same thing sometimes. I can’t decide whether to write in 1st or 3rd limited.
Before today’s books, most stories were in 3rd person omniscient, so you could kind of see the story from every character’s point of view. And now, especially for popular YA, 1st person is king.
Of course, the only thing…[Read more]

@dekreel *jaw drops*
Those are some EPIC maps. Especially with all the topography legend and details
I don’t know that much about the worlds you’ve created, so I can’t be sure if there are any inconsistencies. But, awesome job. ;D
