  • @christianna-hellwig 😀 Anytime awesome swords are involved, the epic factor goes up.

I play the guitar, and I’m going to learn the keyboard soon, because we just got one. (I’m definitely not a master on the guitar, though.) I usually make my music by picking out guitar notes or trying some chords, and I don’t make the parts for the bass clef. To…[Read more]

    @rochellaine XD Thanks. 😀

Oh, and a topic… @dragon-snapper I was thinking the same thing. A hole in a blanket. 😀 But, if you think that topic’s worn out, I suppose you can try…

    Raspberries.

    Red.

    Ripe.

    Raspberries.

    @rochellaine

    I woke up one morning

    To a hideous roaring

    I nearly screamed

    At the puffing and snorting

    I leapt out of bed

    My heart burning ablaze

    Expecting to find someone dead

    Or to chase

But it was only the dragon Giarstanorak, also known as Stan

    And I screamed “I won’t stand for that, although I’m a fan

Of yours Stan this is going…[Read more]

@warrenluther04 😀 Both of those series are pretty epic. Inheritance, though, nails the magic system… it’s very scientific and has limits rather than just saying words

XD Saphira is the best. I really like her character

  • @christiana-hellwig 😀 Actually, that doesn’t sound silly, it sounds awesome 😀

What a thrilling idea! I’ve never thought about somethig like that before. A flaming sword is a very nice setpiece to have around, and the biblical tie-in is very intriguing. It sounds.. well, my signature word is EPIC.

XD Right. Composing is tough. It’s rewarding,…[Read more]

@ashlyvye Storms! cool. Way of Kings is an amazing book. It starts out confusing, actually, because its a lot to get into. And then… well, then it happens. The worldbuilding is simply epic! Shardblades, Shardplate, highstorms, chasmfiends…

    XD XD Haha

There’s actually kind of a funny story behind @dragon-snapper and I’s signatures. Snapper…[Read more]

@ashlyvy 😀 Welcome to the bestistest place on the internet! I’m not sure how I missed you until now.
You like Brandon Sanderson? 😀 😀 😀 EPIC
The Stormlight Archive is my favorite fantasy series, and I like the Reckoners a lot too.
And you like NF! NF is probably my favorite Christian musician because he has so much passion and drive in him. I…[Read more]

  • @christiana-hellwig 😀 Welcome to the bestistest place on the internet!

You’re writing a fantasy novel? Awesome 😀 what is it about?

I’m a fantasy writer, as well, its my favorite genre.

I have a friend who plays violin really well! I like to write music but find it really hard- composing an opera sounds epic, and tough.

    Hmm… advice or word…[Read more]

  • @dekreel 😀 😀 😀 😀

    😀 😀 😀 😀

    That is AWESOME

Stan loves it 😛 😛   (So do I, of course)

    XD It’s really funny

“Was that your chair?” XD I was laughing so hard at that

I’m so glad there’s going to be more, too 😀 I can’t wait

I already really like Jenna as a character

  • @rochellaine 😀 Hi 😀
XD Thanks. The way its turning out is kind of funny, because Swiggy is hopelessly melodramatic about his desire…

  • @catwing XD XD The Firebird. A crashed plane. That is awesome.

I’m here, working for a bit on a story right now called Swiggy Wants to Destroy Everything. Stan is delighted with it, but it’s giving me a little trouble…

  • Sam Kowal replied to the topic Readers' Corner in the forum Book Discussions 8 years ago

@jenwriter17 I just finished reading Alex and Brett Harris’s book, but I’m not reading at the moment…

@warrenluther04 😀 the Inheritance cycle is awesome! For awhile, it was my favorite fantasy series. Eragon itself I like because of the epic quest feel and the intricate magic system

  • @daeus To answer your first question… yes, or at least to impact those who come across my stories.

And to answer your second: Also yes, that’s my goal…

  • @ariella-newheart Looks like you’ve already gotten quite bit of advice, but I would say that probably, 30 characters is too many.

That’s not to say it can’t be done- if the story is an expansive epic, it certainly can, but 30 is a lot for readers to try to keep track of.

It also depends on how much time these characters get- if they’re mostly…[Read more]

@ariella-newheart 😀 Welcome to the bestistest place on the internet.

Stan would like to say hi. (Stan is my dragon pal.

    Stan?

    STAN?

    (He’s shy.)

Anyway, your stories and WIPs sound really cool 😀 I’m a fantasy/some sci-fi writer as well.

Also, I love Narnia, and The Inheritance Cycle.

    @dekreel

From the Earth to the Moon is sort of historical science fiction, by Jules Verne. Pretty much anything by him is great science fiction.

Also, there’s Starship Troopers… even though Daeus had a less than favorable review of that XD

H.G. Wells is another really good science fiction author, you could check out his books

  • @daeus 😀 Thanks. They are harder than they look

Thanks for those revision suggestions, too. The last one especially is helpful since it highlights that the dwarves are more experienced with exosuit building, which they are but that was slightly unclear in the first version.

  • Sam Kowal replied to the topic Book Recommendations in the forum Book Discussions 8 years ago

@jenwriter17 Actually, I’ve never read any of those. If you read them, let us know if they were good:D

And no, I’m not on Goodreads. I do get quotes from authors there, though

  • @dekreel Hmm… good question.
I think a motif is an element that occurs over and over in the story and sort of meant to become part of the story’s theme, whereas a symbol is simply there to represent something. And the theme is the topic your story is focused upon.
So a story’s theme might be forgiveness, and it contains a symbol of forgiveness…[Read more]
