@ryanna As @daeus said, you described a setting, not a plot. That said, that doesn’t seem to be a particularly cliche setting to me. Sure, you aren’t the first person to strand people on an island, or have intelligent animals, but adding unique details (like the fact that they live in groups of two or three,) can easily set the story apart.

When writing in 1st person you want your character to tell the reader what he/she hears, feels, sees, smells, tastes, and thinks. And you really want to show, and not tell.

Great job! I really like it! I agree with @seekjustice though. Maybe if you sort of hinted about what happened to Lacie rather than telling the whole flashback, it would be less distracting to what is actually going on. Besides that, it was really good! You should definitely share more of your writing!
