HELLLOOO! I feel like it’s been ages since I’ve chatted to anyone on here. Even though it’s only been three days.

I’ll be here for a little bit, trying to write a blog post!
(also, if you’ve ever wanted to know anything about my book, let me know! I’m trying to come up with some random pieces of trivia and I’m finding it difficult…)

Goodnight!
Haha but would you be interested in reading my WIP anyway? My MC hits pretty much every point you’ve made. She’s noble, rich, whiny and uh… wishes that she is in a romance novel instead of the story that I’m writing. But she won’t remain noble and rich for long 😉

That’s the problem. I absolutely adore historical fiction but can’t stand half of it. Or more than half of it. But yes, I have an extreme affinity to the “Common man”, which leads me to reading a lot of war historical fiction, because the war (both first and second world wars) were really won by the courage of the average Joe Bloggs. I…[Read more]

Oh. I suppose there’s Southern Belles in other time periods which I probably never noticed.
Ah, that’s true. European serfdom completely slipped my mind for a moment. Funny how much the Atlantic slave trade has shaped the common perception of slavery even though it happened through a much shorter period in history, right?

Oh. The main criticism I’ve heard against Southern Belle books have a lot to do with racism and slavery etc. so I’ve always associated Southern Belles with the Antebellum South. Never really heard of Southern Belles outside that time period.
Hmm now that I think about it, my MC is sort of an East Asian ‘Southern Belle’ because…[Read more]

Yeah, true. I tend to dislike high born lady types (it’s the Australian in me), so that’s probably why I don’t like them. I also dislike the Regency era ladies in Jane Austen 😛
And yeah, you would think so. But in my experience, people will write anything in their diaries and that usually shows you their more flawed side, which you tend…[Read more]

Haha all right then.
I don’t think I know a lot of Southern Belle characters. I’ve watched the film for Gone with the Wind once and that’s about it. I didn’t like Scarlett, of course, but it was obvious that Scarlett wasn’t supposed to be looked up to as a role model or anything like that so I was fine with it.
I actually think of…[Read more]

I don’t really read historical diaries for anything other than research. I tend to find I dislike the person after reading them, I don’t know why. I read Anne Frank’s diary and found it really hard to feel sympathy for her afterwards. I tend to prefer biographies or autobiographies, rather than actual diaries.
I think the thing I’ve…[Read more]

Bye!
Haha, yes, it’s obvious. By the way have you figured out what you want to do with that plot point?
The Southern Belle character type suffers a lot of historical baggage. I suppose it has to do with the period in which Southern Belle books were written.

Elsie Dinsmore and I’ve read about other books, such as Gone with the wind and I also have read things like Lottie Moon. I found her annoying until she went to China.

Hello! Are you still around? I’m not working on anything but I’m happy for a chat.
Gone with the Wind is one of the classics I haven’t read. But I’ve never really wanted to, especially as Southern belle type characters tend to put me off. I think its set in the South?

@rochellaine Well, I’m not too fond of Scarlett, but overall, it’s a very well-written, profound book. I love how the author pays attention to detail. The society, the world and the emotions feel so real, it’s nearly palpable. Overall I give it a 6 out of 10.
I need to get off. I might be back later tonight. See you guys later!

Yes, I am on SE under the same username but I do not go there very often. I hardly have time to come here to KP nowadays, much less SE. 🙁
Hey, we didn’t manage to continue our conversation yesterday. So what is Yishay’s song anyway?

@rochellaine That’s a great way of putting it. . .
My writing is. . . okay. . . I’m considering writing a steampunk novel sometime in the future. Maybe a steampunk retelling of Gone with the Wind. That would be cool.
I’m not on Story Embers as often as I should, so I can’t give a clear answer. What I do know is that it’s thriving.
Wait,…[Read more]

@rochellaine Hello, old friend!! I shall forgive your calling me “little wolf” because I miss you. 😉
*blinks* Oh, I’m alive. I’m alive all right. Albeit distant. Yeah, let’s call it that: Alive yet distant. 0.o
I’m doing fine. School’s been killing me and I’m really bad with procrastinating. . . But. . . yeah. Yeah, I’m okay. How’ve you been?
