I don’t like unrealistic emotion either, @hope , especially when it feels ill-timed or misplaced. Sometimes emotion feels ill-timed when it smacks you in the face in the very beginning of a book. I’m like, “Wait a second- I don’t know if I care yet! I don’t even know these people!”

I’m here at last! Now to find something that hasn’t already been said…
I was thinking that Orwell’s writing style makes the allegory particularly easy to see. Maybe it’s because the story isn’t told from a specific animal’s perspective, so you get the overall big picture. Is there another style that could work equally well for something like…[Read more]
