Igua
Okay who was playing jokes on him now? One minute he’s walking to his cabin in Peaceful Valley, with some of the supplies Skullcrusher had wanted and the next he’s…wherever he is now. Who were these people? Some of them didn’t look Wondian at all and he couldn’t see anyone that looked Realn, Cloak or not. He pressed his finger to his right ear, at least his earpiece was still there.
“Lillian, whe’ are we?”
“I’m sorry, Igua, but this place you seem to be in is not able to be detected.” A monotone woman’s voice answered.
“Great, no ev’n a Metamorph comput’ can fi’ me, ho’ do I accompish to get in thi’ kin’ of stu’?”
“Igua, would you mind refraining from even that slang you’re using? You’re accent is a little too thick today for my circuits.”
“Okay, Lillian. I’ll pretend you’re someone from the Cloak Circle.” Igua stopped and contemplated but looked up to see a figure walking alone a catwalk, in flowery clothes. ‘One day of those things in my line of work, and those things would be but rags, so impractical.’
“Excuse me, maiden, what is going on?”
“You’re a stranger here aren’t you?”
“Yeh, but what is going on.”
“Oh lots. Lord Castle has made the ultimatum ‘Give up your most prized possession or participate in the fashion show.’ Some give up their most prized possession or they participate and it’s rumored that someone is planning to rebel against Lord Castle!”
“I can see why,” Igua mumbled.
“Well, what do you say? What is your most prized possession?” Her eyes glittered with interest.
“Actually, as far as Wondian mortal things, that would be a book but I happen not to have that with me.”
“You like reading?” The maiden scrunched up her nose, “Augh! Disgusting!”
“Well thank you for the opinion that I didn’t ask for.”
“You’re SOOOOOOO very welcome! I can’t wait to see how utterly ridiculous you look, you look rather plain. Oh! It’s my turn! I hope I get to wear something so colorful that it makes everyone wish it was them!”
Within a minute, the maiden came practically dancing out looking as if she had was wearing a many-layered silk dress that was already made up of many colors, fallen in buckets of paint, and then proceeded to paste a rainbow all over herself. She tossed her blond hair as she twirled and seemed reluctant to leave where she was.
Within another minute, Igua was in her same place but he felt worse. He didn’t want to do this, this was so, so un-Cloak! Un-Realn! But no matter what he thought, he felt himself pulled by an unseen force, onto the catwalk. Step by step, he walked down, his green eyes on fire with anger. His head was not even covered, his face not shaded.
“I feel like a cross between an elf and a bush and the sea!”
“Well, it does fit your eyes.” Lillian was not helping.
The one hood was thrown back and large what-ever-they-weres extended up behind his head from his collar. Everything was a base color of fir green while over top were layers of leaves from autumn over his shoulders and fish scales with shells and pebbles. Behind him trailed a cape of the same leaves. The rest of his clothes looked like strips of cloth woven in different ways. In certain places were placed sea-shore shells and fish scales that glittered over his shirt. Igua could not help thinking that one day in his line of work and he would be about dead wearing such shiny fashion. The autumn color code made him feel out of place, but honestly, with his eyes and lean, young muscle, it did look nice. Though, also honestly, the leaves were an overdue. His hair was at least that same ruffled appearance for if it looked styled, Igua would have REALLY been mad.
“Why can’t I resist this, this force? I’m a Cloak! A Realn! And I’m being forced to submit!” He fisted his hands, he would break free of this magic if it was the last thing he did. With long strides, he willingly went down the rest of the way but did not stop to twirl round at the end. Raising a fist straight up in the air, so tight that his knuckles became white, he called with the loudest voice he could muster,
“REBEL! REBEL!”
The words echoed almost deafening in the air. Before Igua could say anymore, the same magic that had pulled him along before, pulled him back, where his clothes changed to normal, to his great relief. By the sounds of the crowd outside, he had surprised them all. And by the sound of his heart inside, he had done the right thing and kept his pride. ‘Now to find the one the rumors of rebellion are about and join them.’
