@Xonos-darkgrate ooh, yeah. That’s tougher. I think it could still be done though… ‘I swore silently,’ or ‘Easily half a dozen rather ungentlemanly words jumped to my lips and I just barely bit them back’. It depends a lot on his voice, of course, but I believe it’s possible.

@Xonos-darkgrate ah, classic question. 😀
I’m definitely not a fan of sanitizing everything to the point of complete squeaky-cleanness, because it’s dishonest.
That said, I think swearing is unnecessary to say the least. It’s different than other ‘content’ for one. Say, for instance, one of your characters is a harlot. Pretty dark, right? But…[Read more]

Thanks @kate-flournoy and @dekreel! Good advice. 😀 Theme… that’s what I was missing. Thanks Kate! @Dekreel, those are some good things to consider! Thanks!
@kate-flournoy I can’t wait to see you (and @emma-flournoy and the rest of the family) tonight! 😀

” @dekreel ! Shhh!” Looks around to see if anybody heard. Whispers, “That’s a secret!” adding loudly, “Haha, very funny! Of course, Writer’s Corner is a SERIOUS place where writers ACTUALLY get work done! No goofing off happens there, haha!” 😉 XD

@Dekreel ooh, that’s an unusually flattering representation of me waking up. It usually involves rolling over at least five times and eventually tumbling off the bed tangled in my fleecy blanket (with static hair flying all over the place) and then crawling my way still half asleep to my closet while splitting my ears with yawning and trying not…[Read more]

@Dragon-Snapper congratulations on branching out. 😉
They’ve covered a lot… the only thing new I have to add is pretty small. You mentioned that you’re tired of writing snarky characters and want to try something different, but had no idea how to go about it…
Why do you like snarky characters in the first place? Is it because they come easy…[Read more]

@Kina-Lamb well, that’s pretty sound as far as I can see. 🙂 The only step I might add between the two is figuring out the theme, but I’ve not done non-fiction before, so I can’t say for certain how majorly that would figure in.
In your place, I would just ask myself, What lesson does this story teach me? To have courage? To persevere? To be kind…[Read more]

Hi y’all!
I’ve got a question for you:
In what order do you write your stories?
Figure out the plot then start writing it? Or is there another step?
As some of you may know, my WIP is a children’s book about my great-grandpa’s story in the Armenian genocide. Grandpa was just here so we sat down, pulled out the manuscripts great-grandpa left…[Read more]

Hey, @dekreel . 🙂 Nice to meet you. Actually, this thread is almost the complete opposite of Writer’s Corner. Whereas the Writer’s Corner is a place to find other writers to write with and share each other’s progress, The Lounge is mainly a place for writers to chat (or complain) about writing or whatever else they want, and basically just…[Read more]

I’m not really sure what you want me to say here, so…
Honestly, I think in a long series, like yours seems to be, simple, one-word titles are best. That way, they can be remembered more easily. I think Victorious is a good name, but some of the ones @dekreel mentioned would work. It’s your choice, but I think going with a one-word title would be best.

Hey, KeePers. I know I keep popping on and off very randomly, and I do hope sometime to be able to get back to a more regular presence, but for now this’ll have to do. 😛
I have a question for you guys. See, I have this book. I wrote it when I was fourteen and it’s due for a serious rewrite. That part is all under control.
But I’m having a bit…[Read more]

Wow, it’s been a while since I hung out here in the Lounge. Today I’ve been thinking about target audiences. How do writers decide what their target audience is? How important is it? If anyone is hanging around and cares to answer or add some thoughts, I’d appreciate the insight. No need for much seriousness. Not much serious writing happe…[Read more]

@Ethryndal definitely better. I love it just how it is, but as Daeus mentioned, you might cut out the first bit about her step-sister without any damage and probably with benefits.

@Ethryndal your sneaking suspicion is absolutely correct, but otherwise this is absolutely brilliant.
Seriously, and I almost forgave it for being too long because all of it was awesome. So yeah. It’s good. *vigorous nodding*
