@Shannon Those are BEAUTIFUL!! 😀 Hmm. I’m not good at making up names for anything really, but my first impression was something like “Storybook Jewelry,” or “Fairytale Jewelry.” Bc they’re so pretty.

@princessfoo Yep 😀 I have a dragon
Well, the reason I have him is that his family kicked him out though. They didn’t think he was impressive enough to bear their name. 🙁 But Stan and I know better.
And yes, Brandon Sanderson is AWESOME. Probably my favorite author. I have read the Reckoners, and I really loved them. Especially the ending o…[Read more]

@princessfoo I’m kind of like you, in the fact that I wouldn’t know flirting when I saw it, let alone realise if someone was flirting with me. However, being a writer, I study people. When I watch my friends with their boyfriends, I tend to see them laugh a lot, more than other people who may be in the conversation, blush a lot, smile a lot, l…[Read more]

@princessfoo Gotcha. 😉 I did think that sounded a little too isolated. 😛
The nice thing if you have access to your character’s head is that it will make it easier to write subtle stuff because you’ve got the character’s internal monologue to add to the equation.

@princessfoo Kapow! Wikipedia probably has a better answer than I do. At least I hope so. I didn’t actually read the article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flirting
Btw, do you have The Emotion Thesaurus? If so, look up “love” in there.

Daeus replied to the topic Writing Romance in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years ago
@princessfoo You heard of the name before or you’ve heard of the principle?
Well, you the goal is to keep your characters from reacting with the same emotion your reader will react with. So if your reader is probably going to laugh at a joke, none of your characters should react to the joke in any hysterical way. If your reader is going to feel…[Read more]

@PrincessFoo very solid advice so far. I’ve never written a full-on romance novel, but every story I’ve written has had at least one romantic subplot, so I’ve been doing this for a while. 😉
My one piece of advice kind of ties in to what @Daeus said, but takes a little different spin on it. The most intriguing, engaging thing about your…[Read more]

@sam-kowal Welcome!! *pats Stan’s head* Ah, so you’ve read some of our posts? You know we’re crazy then! *muffled gasp* Brandon Sanderson is awesome! (I’m going to drag you into this conversation, @princessfoo)
Do you have any favorite movies?

My point is based on a principle I’m going to call Daeus’ principle just to stroke my vanity. This principle states that if you know at a certain point in your story you can get a reaction out of your reader, do not have any of your characters react at that point or the reader will not react. For instance, if you think you can get your rea…

@princessfoo Righty. Well, I don’t really read romance and I’m not an expert on it, but I have written it just a bit.

@princessfoo Yes! Go Star Trek! 😛 so, my first idea was actually a nuclear wasteland, then I realized that because my characters have to go through the city, it wouldn’t make sense. They’d melt. :O The Genre is sci-fi, set in the future of earth, 22nd century.
@emily Actually, the giant sinkhole is really helpful. I’m going to use that somewhere. 😀
