@perfectfifths I totally would, but unfortunately, I don’t have time for any drawing right now. It’s my finals week. Maybe I can next week sometime if you still want me to do it.

@perfectfifths Thank you, and aye, she does look a little like her. 😀

@perfectfifths Oh, it would take me a day normally, but I’ve got some other beta reading to do, so it might take a bit longer. I should have it done within a week though.

Hey, I’d like to start building up my summer reading list! Going on a looonnggg vacation and need a few recommendations. So: good books? I like fantasy and the like, not a big fan of romance or horror novels. @graciegirl @overcomer @r-j-wordsmith @Rachelle @Dragon-Snapper @northerner @perfectfifths @Ethryndal @Brandon-Miller @the-bean @Julia-R @Gid…[Read more]

Ooh ooh what about Tales of Goldstone Wood series by Anne Elizabeth Stengl. I really love the ones I’ve read of that and they’re really beautiful fantasy and allegory-ish too. Super well written.
-
The Youngest Templar Trilogy by Michael Spradlin (not this @spradlin)
The Black Arrow by Robert Louis Stevenson
All of the Ranger’s Apprentice books by John Flanagan (unless, of course, you’ve read those)
The Brotherband Chronicles by John Flanagan
In Search of Honor by Donnalynn Hess
The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
The Hero’s Guide to Saving…[Read more]-
@dragon-snapper LOL. Ironically enough, my favorite genre to write is medieval fantasy.
-
@spradlin Haha! That is too funny!
-
-
-
The Space trilogy by Paul Regnier and A Time to Die trilogy by Nadine Brandes.
-
-
And another thought that I just had would be: Orphan’s Song (Gillian Bronte Adams), or A Wish Made of Glass (Ashlee Willis) – both fantasy. 🙂
-
Pendragon’s Heir by Suzannah Rowntree. Arthurian legend and historical fantasy plus time-travel. Also a great book in its own right. Be prepared for an authour who asks hard moral questions and doesn’t give easy answers. Has a bit of romance but even I (who can’t talk about romance at all without getting snarky) liked it.
-
-
I’ve got too many recommendations.
Ilyon Chronicles by Jaye L. Knight
Blades of Acktar series by Tricia Mingerink.
Finding Angel by Kat Heckenbach
Tales of Taelis series by Sarah Holman
Annabeth’s War and Captive of Raven Castle by Jessica Greyson.-
The Gammage Cup, by Carol Kendall
I just finished reading that a couple weeks ago, and can’t stop raving about it. Fantasy. No romance. No horror. Just a lovely, light read.

-
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. More of a sci-fi than a fantasy, but it’s a must read. I recommend it to everyone.
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is fantastic, though if you get it you should probably get the sequel alongside it and spare yourself the suspense.
If you’ve never read Little Men (yes: men. not women) by Lousia May Alcott you need…[Read more]

Patrick W. Carr’s “The Staff and the Sword” trilogy was a really refreshing fantasy to me. =) Also “The Scarlet Pimpernel” (not fantasy) was really good.
-
Can’t wait to check some of these out!!! I will have lots to read this summer! Thanks, everyone! Oh, and I have read Johnny Tremain, but it’s been a *few* years, so thanks for mentioning it! I think I’ll go to my bookshelf and re-read it now!
-
I’m in the middle of reading Virals by Kathy Rieches (the original mind behind BONES)… it’s so, so good! I highly recommend it. Just throwing that out there in case you’re still needing some more reading material. 😉

@PerfectFifths Ha, I shan’t expect a wolf. XD And he is a fantasy character: short jerkin, trousers, a long cloak with a clasp of crossed spears…
@i-j-anderson Wow! That is… That is actually really close. You’ve caught him in a very rare reflective mood, but still, I can see him there. I LOVE IT!!!

@alia All the time. Most certain characters have a coherent wardrobe, style wise. But sometimes, especially if they have a very bubbly or diva-like personality, their wardrobe can always be different. I stick to the same color palette most of the time. Blondes tend to wear light blues. Girls with dark hair but colored eyes match their clothes to…[Read more]

@perfectfifths Well, I’m done for now. I wrote 173 words and edited half a chapter of the same story. Not particularly happy with what I got done, but I suppose it’s better than nothing. How’d you do?

@kate-flournoy @perfectfifths My life is: keep looking at it and make it perfect until it is perfect….the life of a writer/artist/musician is hard when you go by those terms… *sigh*

I have to stop looking at her for now, otherwise I’m going to see all the flaws and my perfectionism will drive me crazy!
Congratulations. You just summed up my life in one sentence. :’D

Well… you guys inspired me. I did a sketch of the same character, @PerfectFifths, and though it isn’t a perfect likeness I’m pretty happy with it. (Me being a perfectionist and all. 😛 )
Voila.

(Yeeeeah, totally not creepy at all! XD) Hello, nice to meet you, too. I won’t give my name (I hope you understand) but you may called me PerfectFifths 🙂 Are you new here? Do you live in Australia?
That’s fine- I totally understand.
Yeup I’m new! Joined yesterday to be exact, although I’ve been stalking Kingdom Pen for about half a year or so.
I do indeed. New South Wales. 😀
Nice! Welcome! Have you been told this is the bestistest place on the internet yet? 😀 I live in Western Australia 😉 What are some of your hobbies and passions? 😀
I have once or twice. XD Four times in all, including yours. ;P
Hobbies of mine are reading, playing music, doing active stuff outdoors, and writing (obviously).
I have a passion for serving Christ through using the gifts (writing, music) he’s given me for his glory. I love writing and helping others with their writing also.
Yeah, so do I. I play the violin and have started to become very active in my writing. Do you play an instrument? And what genres do you like to write in?
Ooh nice! I play violin too! (as of March last year, and I’m almost up to grade four) I also play flute, guitar and piano.
Generally I like to try out a heap of different genres. Currently I’m writing a dystopian trilogy though, and it’s been really fun. (because I like blowing things up apparently XD)
Wow, grade 4 in 12 months? I’ve been playing for about two years and am only starting to work on grade 3 (yay, someone who knows what I mean when I say that! XD) Have you done any exams, like AMEB? Last year I did prelim and grade 1, because I’d never taken any kind of exam before, so we thought I ought to start easy-peasy.
My main genre is…[Read more]
I still have no idea quite how that happened! But it’s really exciting. (Yesss. :P)
I haven’t really done any of the exams officially (because it involved paying to be part of some such and such violin place) but I’ve unofficially done them with my teacher.
Dystopian is basically set in the future, officially described as futuristic after a big…[Read more]
Ahh, very cool. Yes, the exams can be pretty expensive, but I don’t think we had to pay be to part of something for them, we just did AMEB exams.
Ah, right, disaster stuff. And aren’t a lot of dystopian societies disguised to be utopian?
Ah yep yep. AMEB exams would do it.
Yes! Often (like in Divergent, for example) it looks like Utopia until you find one little hole or look from a slightly different angle and it really isn’t. I just like the idea of setting it in the future and thinking about fun tech stuff to include.
Do you like to write robot characters? 😀
Actually I haven’t written a proper ‘robot’ yet but I’m hoping to soon! I’ve got several scenes sketched out that I think will be pretty fun to write.
I think robot characters are really cool, especially ones that start out completely robot and as the story progresses they develop character and emotions
Yes! That’s super cool. I’d like to have something like that but then there’s the whole ‘but now that’s kinda cliche’ problem…
Yeah, but if it’s done really well, no one’s going to care about the clichés. I’ve written a story that is full of clichés (can’t say it’s done really well, but it was fun and the people who read it seem to enjoy it 😉 )
Cool! Yeah, that makes sense. I may just have a shot. 🙂
Yay!! 😉
So, do you homeschool, or go to regular school? (just tryin’ to think of conversation topics 😛 )
Yep, I homeschool!
I went to public school for six weeks of kindergarten before my mum pulled me and my sisters out and started homeschooling us for good. 😛
How about you?
Homeschooled!
Also went to kindy, but that was it. My brother got to grade 1. Best thing ever. Technically finished, but we’re still goin’ strong, we have so much interesting stuff and curriculum we want to finish 😀
@jane-maree, Hello!
To start with, I apologize that I have stalked your and @perfectfifths conversation. *hee hee!* Will you forgive me? 😉
I’m also an Aussie! 🙂 And homeschooled…
Looking forward to seeing you around!
@perfectfifths ooh cool! 😀 Home school is the best, definitely. Those people out there who think we’re weird…well, they’re right. XD We are weird. But we’re a cool sort of weird, and I love it. 😛
@clairec howdy!! *waves* Ho humm. Should I forgive you? *thinks hard* *takes a council for twelve days* Yep okay. You’re forgiven. 😛
Oh yayyyy!…[Read more]
@jane-maree Yessss the “cool” weird 😉
@clairec I’m not going to pretend to not be not creeped out by you right now, not 😛 And to be perfectly honest, I don’t even know if that sentence is a positive or not 😉 So, yes, I forgive you too 😀 I’m just gonna check to make sure we did the friending thing, a’ight?
Why, thank you! for forgiving me, that is. I am humbly grateful 😛 i apologize I didn’t get back to you sooner. I’m doing year 11 this year and it’s pretty full on, so I am generally only on on Tuesday nights. But as you can see there’s an exception this time as it’s Thursday. 🙂 @jane-maree.
And yes, @perfectfifths, i agree that I am thoroughly…[Read more]
@clairec *bows* You’re welcome. 😛
I know how it is. *gives you motivational pizza* Balancing your time wisely can be so hard sometimes when things are like that. (for me, anyway)
@clairec Yeap, we’re friends 😀 Hello fellow Aussie gals! 😀 How’s life?
@perfectfifths my life is actually really busy and this week has been super hard. But God is good, and I’ve been doing pretty well. 🙂
@jane-maree Praying it gets easier 🙂 That’s good to hear.
@perfectfifths, ugh, school work, mostly. And a lot of piano…and a bit of writing thrown in somewhere. Thankfully I enjoy most of my subjects and really enjoy playing piano. I have a grade 5 AMEB exam coming up in May. I’m quite nervous, but also pretty excited. I’ve never done a music exam before. I did the same thing as you, @jane-maree, and…[Read more]
Ooh, good luck for your exam! 😀 The next one I’m going to take for violin would be grade 3. lol, Yeah, I wondered about putting down the piano 😉 XD
