Oh, that’s good. Mary Poppins is very awesome (or indeed, practically perfect).
(The concept of the movie is that there’s a curse on the Romanovs, which is why they all died. And the curse is trying to kill Anastasia. So it’s portrayed in a negative light…but yeah).
Well, I…find it highly annoying. Like,…[Read more]

@seekjustice You should definitely read the novel. The Princess Bride happens to be one of the very few stories with which the movie and book are equally good. But the book is very different from the movie.
Well…I’m wondering where the love/hate relationship with the movie comes from, in that case? 😛 Glad you don’t think ridiculous is ne…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Oh, what types are you thinking so far? Hopefully, I’ll get time to do my promised blog post today, but we’ll see.
Have you seen Mary Poppins? I much prefer the Broadway/Australian version to the movie, but the movie is pretty good. the Anastasia animated movie is also really good (as long as you’re okay with a few scary moments and…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Oh, no I haven’t answered yet. I think you asked me right as I was leaving one night, and I didn’t get a chance to reply.
So, let’s see…
Oklahoma! (1955) by Rogers and Hammerstein is really good. The antagonist is rather scary, but I think you said your siblings have watched mildly scary stuff before, right?
Singin’ in the Ra…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Oh, cool! I don’t think I know anyone I would class as a ISTJ. I’m pretty sure I know people of most other types. Though, I do know one girl and I’m not sure if she’s a INTJ, INTP or ISTJ….Once you get into Myers Briggs there’s no coming back.
And yep, it’s that novel!
Nope, I haven’t.
Dear friend, you should know…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Daughter of Judas. 😉 How about you?
@seekjustice Have you ever read the book?
Also…huge question here: When did ridiculous become a negative thing?

*pats you on the head…or some other equally patronising thing*
I’m reading about characters with the ISTJ type at the moment, because my heroine for my new novel is an ISTJ and I don’t have a whole lot of experience dealing with them.
Unfortunately no. There’s been a few sprinkles, but nothing at all substantial. Keep…[Read more]

Ah, arranged marriages are another interesting point that a lot of people malign (though in some cases, how can you blame them?).
Something else you could try though, is an alternate history type thing. I have no much experience with that genre, but the plot could work in that sort of setting.

She sounds quite interesting. I should read more about her.
Well, then you’ll either have to choose to confront the issues or just make up a world where they don’t exist 😛

When did Marie Curie live? I can’t remember exactly how much formal education she had, but she was an extremely clever woman who definitely had a lot of knowledge (and would have made a good forensic scientist :P, which I’m sure would be helpful for your character).
When I create fictional countries/cultures I tend to make them a mash up…[Read more]

I don’t know. They’re new(ish) books, so they wouldn’t be in the public domain yet. Are you part of an online library like BorrowBox or Overdrive? They’d probably have some.
The thing I’ve noticed, in Western societies at least, which is what I know the most about, is the whole “you can’t do this because you’re a woman” is much more of a…[Read more]

I like the sound of that idea! Have you ever read the Brother Cadfael mysteries? They’re quite fun and they’re about a medieval monk during the first English civil war solving murders. I quite enjoy reading those, especially since it’s very obvious the author did her research.

Well, you’re my friend, so I would feel bad if I couldn’t overlook your annoying MC (and yes, she is annoying. I hope she gets better before the end). 😀 But when its just a book written by someone I don’t know, I have no patience.
