@skredder 🙂 Hooray for shattered trust! An author’s key to wonderful anxiety and emotional impact on our characters.
But I’m going to go now, I think. It’s getting late. Goodnight! Have fun with the heart-to-heart!

@skredder A heart-to-heart? Oh, that was the most terrifying part of my last book for me to write! I had been planning it from the beginning and had it all perfect in my head, and then when I finally got to that scene I completely forgot everything I had planned. 🙁 It turned out okay, but though I can’t remember what I had planned I’m still su…[Read more]

@skredder I’m editing my western, which is also going at a slower pace than I’d like. 🙂 However, my pace is not at all steady, so congratulations on that score. 😛
How are your characters behaving?

@skredder Hi! What are you working on? How’s it going?

@skredder Hey, are you writing?
@seekjustice Are you going to be on tonight?

@seekjustice Oh, haha! I forgot he was deaf! Second what @skredder just said. In ASL he wouldn’t use as many slang words, but if he knew them before he got deaf he might write them.
Though writing slang isn’t as common, since most people tend to be more formal in writing than in speaking.
However, since he’s in Australia he might just de…[Read more]

@seekjustice I agree with Jen that you could watch American movies, but for slang, and not cultural norms. Hollywood does not depict normal American life. 😀 So, you can listen to the speech patterns and they might be similar to normal Americans, but what the people do in the movies and their mannerisms and reactions to things are not n…[Read more]

@seekjustice Okay, I wasn’t sure, since I have never met any Australians. 😉 I know a few Canadians and British-educated people (not actually British, but African or Pakistani) and they don’t seem to make fun of language differences as much as we Americans do.
Another “don’t” is don’t have him say “y’all.” I don’t know if you’ve heard the t…[Read more]

I think the feeling is mutual 🙂 Australians also make fun of American English (I remember the first time I was confronted with the word Mom).
I’ll remember that though. He will tease mpeople by calling them bloke

@seekjustice Okay, cool. Too bad, because I love WWI slang, but it’ll be easier for you, probably. 🙂
Hm, let me see… number one, Don’t let him say “bloke” for the first while, but he will definitely say it as a joke at one point! Americans love copying and making fun of other English dialects and slang words we’re not used to. (It do…[Read more]

No, its for my third Infinity book, so its set in the future, but since my Australian characters are fairly modern Australian the Americans will be too.

@seekjustice I LOVE studying slang!
First, a couple of clarifications: American slang and idioms are very diversified depending on what part of the country we live in. In certain parts of the country we have even almost different dialects altogether. 😛 So, thanks for saying he’s in Ohio.
But…secondly, what time period is this? Is it for y…[Read more]

So, as most of you probably know I am Australian and I probably know less about America than you know about Australia.
This is problematic, because my current WIP has a character who is demanding to be American (no idea why, that’s just how he is). Specifically he is from Ohio. Now I kind of need to know about Americans, what slang they use in…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 One pair of boots coming up!
Where to find the best fast food?! Do you remember the opening of my book where Chara looks through the airport restaurants for “anything that’s not greasy or sugar-saturated?” 😛 I’m afraid she wouldn’t be all that grateful for Rin’s advice. She’s a bit too ladylike and conservative. 😉 Raelyn, on t…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Haha!
Oh, the boots being ruined is probably the worst of all, isn’t it? I hadn’t thought of that. I did plan for her to get a new pair, but I don’t think I told her that yet, so maybe that’s the trouble. 😉
You know, I realize that what my characters go through isn’t necessarily horrible compared to what your or SeekJustice’s c…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Well, she keeps trying to have panic attacks, and I can’t have her doing that because it slows the action down and makes her seem like an annoying character. But every time I delete one panic attack or freak out session she just goes and has another!
So I’m giving her a time-out until she comes to her senses.
Although, I guess…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Well, it’s the series I have on my website. I thought you had seen that? Six are published so far, but it’s been two years since I published the last one, and I’ve had requests for another, so I’m trying to write a seventh book. They’re pretty short, only about 14,000 words each, so I should be able to write it pretty qu…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Actually, not at the moment. 😀 I’m working on the seventh book in my kids series. (Four Children’s Adventures.) I’ll probably be going back to my western in a little bit.
How’s your dystopian coming? Are your characters still alive? 😛
