@overcomer Thanks. *bites into cake. Yummy* Oh goody I love birthdays. *scrunches up eyes, clasps hands and makes a wish*
And just for your information I actually haven’t written a novella but a novellette. The difference is the words count. A novellette is 7,500-20,000. A novella is 20,000-50,000. And then a novel is 50,000-110,000. Any longer…[Read more] -

@overcomer I have nearly finished my first story. It has turned out to be a novellette rather than a short story, but I’m making it still count. Yes, I realized after I had decided to to it, that it is a tall goal, but even if I don’t succeed, I will have at least tried my best. 🙂
Good work with your project though. 🙂

Awesome @overcomer! I hope you succeed in your goals. (I’m really interested now in what one can write about a park foundation.)

I’ll be starting soon @overcomer. I’ve got about 2/3 of it plotted out and now I just need to do research really.
And use the editing quote all you want. I think I’ll be coming back to it myself.

Honestly @overcomer, I just pull the most random things out of my head for dragon inspiration. I end up getting pretty original ‘looks’ that way though— dragons with feathery wings, and plumes on top of their heads, and very large, oblong eyes fringed with feathers instead of scales… I also read a fair bit of Norse/Celtic/Scottish mythology,…[Read more]

That’s pretty funny, @bluejay. 🙂
@overcomer Yes, dragons are fun. I like looking at snakes for facial inspiration. But mainly I look up pictures on pinterest or google. I’ve never tried getting enough details down to draw one though. But I did write an article last month about dragons which might give you some ideas. 🙂 You can read it here.

*Raises hand* Me! Me! Pick me!
My name is Hannah and I will have been writing officially for two years come this August (Wow this feels like a Writers Anonymous Group). This summer I would like to finish the editing on my Historical Fiction as well as write at least 10,000 words in another book which I currently have no genre or era for…so…[Read more]

I was writing a story this morning and I got called for lunch so I hurriedly finished my sentence and I wrote this:
Since King Octavius is no longer ruler, the city is left with no ruler.
I couldn’t believe that I wrote that. I am definitely going back to fix that up. 🙂
@overcomer I’m not sure. Try calling @hope. She works with dragons a lot.

@daeus @kate-flournoy and @overcomer I haven’t read Animal Farm before, but I agree with all those re-readability factors based on other favorite books. I also think that it has a lot to do with the minor details like subtext or foreshadowing, the subtle clues that you don’t pick up on until you know the ending. I also enjoy reading books like…[Read more]

@Overcomer oops didn’t see this before I answered on tell other topic. Any direct mentions I get go straight to spam for some reason. *shakes head*
My story is probably considered young adult. It follows a girl and her family on the Oregon Trail on their way to WA.

That is so great @overcomer! I love humorous and quirky writing…actually just about anything humorous and quirky. 😀 And from what you said it sounds like it could be enjoyable for all ages which is really good. I remember my Mum reading The Old Squires Farm to us when I was little and there was a lot in there that I didn’t understand back then…[Read more]

That makes a lot of sense and your story’s sounds really fun! What age group are you writing for?

@Overcomer that’s true. Come to think of it, though I was frightened of scary images (extraterrestrials, bears with huge teeth, sharks, etc.) the one thing that scared me most when my dad read us ‘Scottish Chiefs’, for instance, was Marion’s death. And it didn’t scare me because of the violence itself. It scared me because I couldn’t understand…[Read more]

Thanks @overcomer!
Ah that’s cool! Fantasy isn’t really my genre but I have a couple of bros who write along those lines (fantasy/sci-fi). Also I can totally sympathize with the research area since my current WIP which I’m editing is historical fiction. I think you’re right in saving any ideas for a historical novel til a later date. The…[Read more]

@overcomer and @kate-flournoy I think it depends on the kid. My siblings are able to sit through anything from the Little House books to LotR, but I also know kids who, like Kate was, get scared of the mildest things. I think that if a child could endure the scarier things in the story, Animal Farm would make an excellent read-aloud even for…[Read more]

@overcomer hahaha! I’m sure they wouldn’t protest that… 😛
Well, I guess it would depend heavily on the child. When I was little I used to be scared of my own shadow, so I can imagine it being pretty terrifying for me, but I’ve always been the sensitive/dramatic/over-imaginative one in my family. I don’t think any of my other siblings would…[Read more]

@Overcomer is this new novel going to be historical?
