@emily-d Good. I can’t stand soccer or football. 😛 The US has the NFL, but I never watch it. Actually, I don’t really like sports at all. On par with cats. 😛
Fortunately, I don’t know many Beatles. ‘We all live in a Yellow Submarine.’ Just why?? 😛
Techno music gives me a headache from time to time. 😛
Tigers are awesome. Have you read any…[Read more] -

@kate-flournoy Thanks! I think that castle is one of my best works.
@winter-rose 😛 It can be Daeus’ castle if you think it looks like it. Maybe a gate leading to the courtyard?
@rachelle A landscape can take me anywhere from five minutes (that really quick sketch with the creek) or the more detailed landscapes, such as the lake one or the road…[Read more] -

Snapper replied to the topic My Take on Cliches in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 3 months ago
@mark-kamibaya Oh, boy. This’ll be hard to explain. 😛
So, a cliche, being what it is clearly has to come from some idea, and that idea is or isn’t a cliche. If it is a cliche, then clearly it came from somewhere, then you have a bunch of cliches within cliches. But if you change the definition of cliche, then they are all original, but they have…[Read more]

Interesting, subconsciously comparing and contrasting–I think that its a neat way of thinking of it.
Compare and contrast is certainly helpful, especially with sci-fi, because the world- like you said, it doesn’t have to be Earth -doesn’t directly compare to ours. And a self-made connection is always much more revealing.
Arc within an arc.…[Read more]

@hope I don’t think so. It’s still in the pre-stages of movie making. But they have some of the characters. Boromir is king Duncan. 😛

@graciegirl Yep–been there, done that myself! And I agree. Sometimes you can get away with stories that have little meaning if the story itself is really well-executed (Force Awakens would fall into that camp for me), but even then, it only works because it has some meaning, and 9 times out of 10, the story would be improved if themes were more…[Read more]

Hey guys, I have a prayer request. An older man my brother works with recently had a stroke, and it looks like he’s not going to make it. I don’t know the details, but I think part of his skull had to be removed and it messed with his brain, causing significant damage. He’s in a coma now. He is not a Christian. If you all could pray that he will…[Read more]

@Mariposa welcome to the Kingdom! 😀 😀 😀 Dinosaurs are fascinating. I prefer dragons myself (as you can see, I am one. 😉 ) but dinosaurs are the next best thing.
And your art is really good. What medium do you use? -

@dragon-snapper Yeah, I really think writing science fiction with these definitions in mind will improve your story at least in the areas of character and theme.
I really like that definition of sci-fi for obvious thematic reasons. Also, sci-fi can’t just be about technology and the extraordinary because that would disregard certain genres of…[Read more]

@sleepwalkingmk Looks like you’re at the right place then if that’s your goal. 😉 Being able to spot it in books is a great first step. That should help you make a lot of good connections as you move through the course and can compare what you learn here to what you’ve seen in those books.

Welcome to the site @mariposa! Awesome artwork. :O And I love the Spurgeon quotes. Are you still working on that second dinosaur book or are you already planning your next work?

@dragon-snapper I’ve heard about it. Is there a trailer yet? I have mixed feelings about the books, but I want to see the movie if they do it well.
