I agree with @orielle21 on this.

to also keep the reveal that she is not dead in the same book (worst case scenario use an epilogue).
This is [art can be voided with well enough foreshadowing (like in the above example). Just if doing it through foreshadowing just don’t make your characters think this character is totally dead. Give them hope for the character’s survival (even…[Read more]

The thing I dislike about character undeath is when it is done incorrectly. This is done when the return doesn’t make sense, feels unnecessary, or makes things pointless.
The series I am reading actually kind of had a version of this that was well done. In the book, one of the characters gets captured by the bad guys but you don’t see…[Read more]

I would like to say that is exactly the reason you should leave the character dead (read some interviews with G.R.R. Martin).
But if you don’t want to kill her then you should make sure that her return makes sense. The best suggestions I have without knowing the exact situation are to use heavy foreshadowing and to also…[Read more]

Seems interesting. I do have one question though. How different is their world from ours. Also due to you mentioning the Bible I assume you are using real christianity instead of allegorical christianity. -

Yes. That makes sense and I agree with you there. I mostly meant how some books can have a lot of focus on grief (ie I was just reading this one book in a series where the MC was struggling over her grief for this one character she had a crush on that died in the last book’s finale).

I have to disagree with you on bringing back characters. I feel like unless it is significantly foreshadowed or makes complete logical sense (ie. a character has an object that can bring someone back from the dead which is revealed before the character it is used on has died) (chekovs gun) it is better for them to stay dead. I…[Read more]

I would agree with most of your points but
1. They aren’t dying just because.
What do you mean by this one. Does dying just because mean the character is killed and it has no impact.
4. The death doesn’t become the focus of the story.
I also don’t get what you mean here. How does this not contradict point 2.

Ok, so as the name suggests I was wanting to make a forum to discuss what we thought made a good character death or our personal writing ideas when it comes to character deaths.

I don’t think I am. I actually don’t know what you mean by YWW/Ydubs. What does it stand for (because it is possible (however very unlikely) that I just don’t know the slang/abbreviation and actually have an account (possibly from a while ago (though I am pretty sure I don’t)))?

@freedomwriter76You guy’s character sheets are so cool. I love the art aspect.
Also Freedom your story seems like it could be interesting depending in the way you go with it. It seems to be a prequel of some sorts. I’m kind of newer so I was wondering if you might be inclined to explain. Specifically who is adolphus?

Otherworldly Historian replied to the topic "Fixing" the Star Wars sequel trilogy??? in the forum Plotting 1 year, 11 months ago
Honestly, if you remake the star wars sequels I would keep Finn because the idea of him was cool. I think the whole idea of exploring the idea of a stormtrooper defect was good. Ultimately, they failed to deliver his arc in favor of Rey +Kylo Rin. I also would not bring back Palpatine. Just don’t. Please.

I can do it if we want.
Now would probably be a good time for me to ask exactly how this works (like should I make some lore dumps before adding characters) (any restrictions) (ie other rules).

I agree that I feel that fantasy authors reuse the same species things a bit too much. I mean it is okay to do it a bit of using stuff but if your fantasy world feels like a slightly modified 5E campaign then I feel like you have a problem.

I can agree that you should change the name of the elves. Personally I prefer the idea of having more unique names. It makes the world feel more unique. I also feel that it can be be interesting to re-name some stuff from our real world (speaking of which I still need to rename guns for Kharvia 🤔).
I don’t have any name ideas t…[Read more]
