Hey, guys! It’s 2017 over here in Australia – I know it’ll still be last year for some of you, but I still want to say
Happy New Year, Kingdom Pen! 😀
This is a whole new year for us young, Christian writers to write for the glory of God. A whole new year full of unexplored ideas, inspiration and experiences. A whole new year for us to receive…[Read more]

@northerner @daeus @kate-flournoy Thanks for the input.
I could probably find a way to have ghosts represent something spiritual in this story, but it might be a stretch. I guess my question is, do they have to represent something? If you look at Lord of the Rings (which is pretty much one of my favorite things to point to as an example of…[Read more] -

@northerner Yes, I agree that sometimes magic is a necessity in the fictional universe, and as I go on and think of more stories, I’m considering more and more about adding it in – but I’m still unsure, and until I am, I am taking that as a sign from God that I shouldn’t be including magic (and I may never in the end)
Yes, the Lochac site didn’t…[Read more]

@northerner Alfred the Great and the very beginning of Christianity in England are probably the two things I am most interested in. I like the Saxon language; we have a 1828 Webster’s dictionary, and it goes into the origins of words and names, and so from there I’ve had a peek into old Saxon. Oh, I also enjoyed reading about the way England was…[Read more]

@northerner So glad you’ve come out into the open from stalking us!!! Welcome, welcome! We’re glad to have you here. 🙂
@bluejay Ooo I’ve been LARP-ing before. We did not use anything with fiber glass in them though. Just still pool noodles. I was very excited but my “clan” always seemed to loose. (probably cause I’m not a very aggressive…[Read more]

@northerner We have a similar game called LARP (Live action role playing) We try to bash everyone one up and be the last to survive. We work on our own clans and it is helps of fun as long as no one gets hurt. I have been whacked on the nose by a sword (it’s fiber glass inside foam) It was painful, but it soon helped.

I’ll definitely take a wee look at that site. Are these kingdoms all over the world, or just in the U.K, ‘cuz I’m in Australia…
Basically if you have a hobby you can find its period equivalent in the SCA
That’s awesome! Would that happen to include playing authentic, period musical instruments? 😀I, too, mostly delves into the…[Read more]

@ethryndal @northerner And the wonderful thing about Dragon Snappers is…I’m the only one! (who can get that reference–northerner, I won’t melt any of your chairs if you get it right. :P)
@northerner Yeah, Ethryndal’s right. I just so happen to be better than a Night Fury. Hiccup is so mad at me. 😛 -

@northerner Welcome to the Kingdom. Seeing Kingdom Pen growing is an amazing thing. We have had so many newcomers recently, and it makes my heart so happy. 🙂 🙂 🙂 I just can’t express how much love I have for this website, and I hope you will find that too. There is always encouragement to be found here. I look forward to conversing with you more. 🙂

@northerner Nope, not a wyrm, or a wyvern. I’m a bigger and more awesome version of a Night Fury. 😀 I hold it with my mouth, and at times I manage with my claws. But most of the time I sit at my computer to do things.

so, you quote? And you are contrary? *eyes you suspiciously*
Excellent. I myself am a rebel.
I, Dragon Snapper, one of the only resident dragons–not excluding @kate-flournoy – welcome you here. It is fantabulous. Be warned of the dragons. Fatefully, though not without my dissent, I myself am one: a dragon. It causes no disadvantage…[Read more] -

Welcome, @northerner! I am Ethryndal, the resident Elf. Everyone on KP is insane to some extent, so I think you’ll fit right in. 🙂 Oh, and you like to quote? Now I like you more… 😉

@northerner I’ve read some Father Brown stories, which I really liked. I think that’s all though.
Btw, the book’s free on kindle too.

@northerner A ballad about Alfred? *freaks out* I HAVE to read that.
Ok, I just downloaded it off Amazon. Thanks for the recommendation.
A book on postmodernism could be great. Let me know if you write it.

@northerner Well, I do happen to be an Alfred the great fanatic, so I’ve considered writing about him at some point, but it probably wouldn’t be for at least two or three years.
I’m glad you’re into historical fiction. I love the genre and would probably write mostly in it if I didn’t find the research aspect so daunting.
That’s cool you get to…[Read more]

@Northerner Beowulf! Yes!!! And Sir Gawain and the Green Knight— YES! And Anglo-Saxon history— YES. All that stuff is amazing. And the SCA sounds really fun.
Question— have you read ‘Beyond Sing the Woods’, by Trygve Gulbransson? It’s a really old book, and Norse, not Anglo-Saxon, but I really like it.
