@Jane-maree, @daeus, I’m trying again. 45 minutes or so.

@Daeus, and I got. . . nothing. I had to go out for chores. (Just when I start being able to do these things again.)

@Daeus, I just started again. I’m not sure for how long.

@DelightinLife, prose is also, at its simplest, whatever is not poetry. Except prose can be poetic (for the record, there is no such thing as a ‘prose poem’), so as with many simple things, it’s not easy. So essays, stories, novels, lots of plays, letters, if they’re the kind of thing that uses paragraphs, they’re prose.

@Emma-Flournoy, I’ve read it! I have it on my shelf, actually. I used to read it for fun, before I knew I was a writer. And some of the bad humour is stuff I didn’t understand until I went to college, so it’s probably safe for young folk as long as they don’t go quoting stuff they’re not sure about. (It is quotable, which is unusual for its category.)

@His-Instrument, do you have a source for RM’s location for next year? Is it one of those hopeful rumours, or official, or something in between (like a rumour an official dropped)?

Maybe it’s just because I’m recovering from Harry Potter at the moment, but I like the twist of the giant snake being friendly and worthy of trust. And it could make for some good character developement for it to be her guide when she’s blind. (And some humour, as the poor snakey tries to prove its care and concern for her well-being stem from…[Read more]

I’ll be trying to rewrite a chunk of my novel this afternoon, if Life and lack of motivation get out of the way.

@Hope, are you going to try to do it in a week, too? 🙂 I’ll probably write mine over July.

@Kate-flournoy, oooh. None of the rest of us will stand a chance. I don’t suppose it will be fair, then, to ask for your help with my entry? I’ve got warring themes and they’re tying the plot in knots.

@his-instrument, here’s a link to one of the announcement posts: http://knittedbygodsplan.blogspot.com/2017/06/cover-reveal-five-golden-braids.html. Rooglewood Press has done three fairy-tale-retelling contests before this one, but due to Life Happening, this will be the last — at least for the foreseeable future.

It’s the last one they’re doing, and I’ve heard (though I can’t track down the rumour far enough to know for sure whether it’s true) that every submission gets feedback this time.
If you are, tell us about your…[Read more]

@Jadamae, the only one of mine ready for that kind of thing is halfway through being beta-read right now, so you’d have a lot to catch up on, and I don’t think I’ll have anything ready before winter. Sorry.
I had a Copyediting class last fall, and though I’d been one of those “grammar Nazis” for a while, the introductory class did teach me some…[Read more]

@That_Writer_Girl_99, it could be a thread like that, or one asking people who’ve had families like this what they recommend as a way of getting past that barrier. I think any one of the three could be helpful. We probably aren’t the only ones whose families are the last to read our work.

Hey, @that_writer_girl_99, my family’s kind of the same way, though not entirely. It’s a bit mixed. For example, my sister’s really patient about listening to me ramble on about my stories, and she often comes up with good ideas, but at the same time she’ll tell me I won’t get published. And my mother’s kind of proud of me getting a “useless”…[Read more]

Northerner started the topic Question about the webinar and theme mastery course in the forum Film 7 years, 6 months ago
I’d love to listen to the webinar on Monday, but I’ll be either at a conference on the Reformation, or with my grandmother, so I won’t be able to. Will it be recorded or something, like the panel discussions, to come back to after it’s over?
And secondly, how much will the theme course cost? I’m a college student who’s currently without a job. .…[Read more]

This weekend I saw a girl who I’m certain is a writer, though I never talked to her (I’m trying to get contact information for someone who might know her, so I can ask for her contact information in a slightly less creepy way than otherwise, but that’s another story), and she reminded me how much of my writing life I spent alone.
I started…[Read more]
