Ooh! This topic!
I’m glad to see that several dozen people didn’t jump on it right away and say that ghosts have to be evil and there’s no way to let them in even to fantasy. I happen to be fond of the idea of ghosts myself. . . partly telling myself stories about friendly ones when I was little to counter my fear of the dark. However, since “it…[Read more]

@PerfectFifths, there are lots of things Christians object to in stories, but that doesn’t mean you should leave them out. Trying to please everybody ends two ways: pleasing nobody, or writing something so bland and artificial that though people may like it, it’s no good. So if a story would be better, as far as the art of it goes, with magic,…[Read more]

NIIIIIGHT FURYYYYY!
Ahem. That movie gets quoted a fair bit in our house too. My sister’s cat looks a lot like Toothless, and acts a lot like him too.When he runs between people’s feet to get into the house (where he’s not supposed to be), we’ll often yell that so that people on the other side of the door can catch him.
Is there such a thing as a…[Read more] -

Isn’t it hard to hold a pen with claws? Or are you perhaps a wyrm and you use your tail? (That could actually be really handy, come to think of it.) I am not a dragon, but some days I’d like to be. Being human is hard.

@Daeus, Chesterton wrote something in just about everything. He’s mostly known for the Father Brown stories, but he wrote other detective stories too — try the Club of Queer Trades. He also wrote essays about famous writers in which he talks less about the writers who are the subjects than about ideas of aesthetics and morality and art. He wrote…[Read more]

@Daeus Yes! It’s really good! Have you read anything of Chesterton’s before?
For anyone else who might be interested, it’s available free on Project Gutenberg.

@Daeus
Have you read Chesterton’s Ballad of the White Horse? It’s an epic poem he wrote about Alfred the Great. I discovered it last semester when I had to memorize a poem for school and was searching for something to say. It’s long, but worth it. Though I don’t know why I’m warning you about length when you like the Count of Monte…[Read more] -

I hadn’t heard of Beyond Sing the Woods before, but I looked it up. It does look interesting.
You probably know Tolkien translated Beowulf? We have his, and Seamus Heaney’s. I had a British Literature class last semester and we got to read Beowulf, among other things. So much fun :).

Emma, my name doesn’t intentionally have a connection with Strider, though it wouldn’t surprise me if something did slip in. Tolkien has influenced me a lot.
I’ll just say obscure historical things are fun, and leave it at that, before I do start rambling.Daeus, were you actually going to write an Anglo-Saxon novel? Feel free to bug me. I have…[Read more]

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. I know some of you better than you know me, thanks to my stalking Kingdom Pen for about the last year. Hopefully that isn’t a creepy introduction? Hope introduced me to KP, but it took a while for me to get around to actually joining.
Things you should know about me, other than that I’m a creepy writer:
