@Graciegirl I’m still working on the shadow functions, but I definitely agree. MBTI is amazingly thorough.

By the way, I took the Enneagram test and am indeed Type 4, the Individualist.
Oh, and it also said my mental health was ‘above average’ which was frankly a bit of a surprise and a relief all at once. :’D

@Daeus yes it does. It explains the very core of you if you study it correctly, and the combinations of your different functions explain how you act when you’re stressed and why. It’s just something you have to deduce by yourself. 😉
Which, personally, I think is a plus… XD -

@Aratrea well, I maintain the superior coolness of MBTI (it’s not a system, it’s a concept) *haughty sniff* but I have to admit that is pretty cool. 😉

It’s probably what sold me the most on the Enneagram system since I know I tend to act fairly differently depending on my mood.

@Aratrea COOL!

@kate-flournoy @daeus @graciegirl One other thing to add to this discussion on Enneagram theory is that one of the coolest parts of the system (at least for me) is the theory that when you are stressed or relaxed, you actually act like a different character type (hence the connecting lines: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enneagram_of_Personality).…[Read more]

@Graciegirl that’s actually fascinating and don’t worry AT ALL about writing long posts because we all do it. 😀
I haven’t looked into Enneagram yet… maybe I should. Because thisThrees with a strong four wing tend to be creative, introspective, private, subdued, intellectually oriented, and can sometimes be moody, arrogant and pretentious.

@daeus It’s essentially saying that while you’re predominantly one character type, you also share a lot of qualities in common with another character type adjacent to your character type in the Enneagram circle. That alternate type will then be your ‘wing.’

@Dragon-Snapper not usually, but I seem to be in a slump right now and I think it’s just because I’m so busy my brain is dead. I’ve been doing a ton of planning but by the time I get around to my writing time my brain is positively numb. *commiserates with you because she has no solution*
Actually maybe I do have a solution. I have noticed that…[Read more] -

@graciegirl Welcome to the forum! Glad you’ve found us. 🙂 I actually just read Scandal in Bohemia for the first time last week for a college class and enjoyed it a good bit. Also, shout-out for breaking the MBTI-monopoly by including your Enneagram. 😉 I’m actually a 4w5 as well!

@Daeus he was pretty much essential to the theme though, so I wouldn’t cut him without serious thought and a really good backup plan.
Which my brain tells me you already knew; of course, duh, but I figured I’d put it out there anyway. -

@Graciegirl HEYYYYY! SOMEONE ELSE OBSESSED WITH MBTI! (On a scale of one to ten, how obsessed would you rate yourself? Unfortunately I think I’m a twelve. XD) And a fellow INFP to boot! And someone else who has spent three years building one fantasy world! And someone else who loves both Tolkien and Elizabeth Gaskell! (Have you read North &…[Read more]

@gideon-sowdon Good question! That’s actually something that we haven’t finished yet. The worksheet, though, will essentially just be the list of questions I ask at the beginning of this thread put in a more elegant format, so I recommend you just use those questions on page one of this thread to guide you through this exercise. 🙂

@audrey-caylin That looks like a fantastic outline. Makes me want to read your book! I love how naturally those experiments flow into each other, and at least on paper, the plotting seems perfect!
The one thing you’ll want to watch out for is the fact that the story seems to be more leading from one experiment directly to the next one without a…[Read more]

@aella I love that! One of the most intimidating things as an author for me is to read a really good book that really moves me and wonder how I’d ever be able to write a book as good as that. Theme definitely helps a lot with that, though, so that’s a great motivation for delving into theme more!
