@Northerner Beowulf! Yes!!! And Sir Gawain and the Green Knight— YES! And Anglo-Saxon history— YES. All that stuff is amazing. And the SCA sounds really fun.

@Daeus *in most convincing ‘mom’ voice* It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.

@Northerner Welcome to the bestiest place on the internet! YES! I got to say it. Though whether I spelled it right is another matter… So glad you are finally here! You’ll have fun. 🙂

Welcome to KP, @Emma-L. 😀 Glad to have you here! We are quite an assortment of characters on this forum (no, for real) but don’t let us freak you out. We’re all well-intentioned. 😉
Ooh, The White Gypsy! I haven’t read it, but I’ve heard the audiodrama and I love it. Have you heard the audiodrama?
What genre do you write? -

I’ve been learning more about character arcs recently and am working on a disillusionment arc for one of my MCs. A disillusionment arc is, how did @kate-flournoy put it, moving from a pleasant lie to an unpleasant truth. So it is positive in that it moves from lie to truth, but negative in that it goes from pleasant to unpleasant. Since I’m…[Read more]

@His-Instrument ummm… about thirty minutes… east? of Circleville. But our ‘travel-zone’ is usually limited to around an hour either way unless we’re going to do something really special all together, in which case we have to wait for a day with comparatively little cabin-related work, which are few and far between. Also we practically don’t…[Read more]

@His-Instrument I appreciate your flexibility and efforts, but I’m afraid not. 🙁 See, I’m not driving yet, so one of my parents would have to take the time to drive me, which would take them away from the cabin business and leave the other half of the family to do all the cleaning work themselves, and while I’m sure we could manage if we had to,…[Read more]

@sarah-h Hello Sarah, I just wanted to say thanks really quick for welcoming Kenya back. Maybe it’s a little thing, but little things are important. I personally don’t agree with everything she writes, but I also believe hospitality is a big part of life in Christ, so I want to thank you for taking the opportunity to welcome her and not debate…[Read more]

I think @kate-flournoy and the others might have already said all this, but my main thought on hooks and first lines is that it needs to present a question. It doesn’t normally ask a question outright, but the question is implied. If the story starts with dialogue, we wonder who is talking. If it says ‘once only God knew the day that you would…[Read more]

@daeus hey, just thought I’d let you know I’m not going to be writing tonight or tomorrow. Tonight visiting some friends, same tomorrow, though different friends. The Brandyberries? I believe you’re familiar with them? They live about ten minutes from my grandparents’. 😀

@kate-flournoy Thank you. 🙂 I’m glad you think I did the right thing. I wasn’t sure if it would irritate her, but I wanted to say something kind.
P.S. I hope you didn’t mind that I decided not to debate you. I kind of forgot to say that.
@Sarah-H you can’t go wrong with kindness. 😉
No, I didn’t mind at all.
