I personally enjoy political intrigue in fantasy, but I’m more interested in politics than most ppl. For example, I didn’t mind all the political maneuvering in Phantom Menace, even though most people hated it. 😛 (I disliked Phantom Menace for other reasons.) But it can certainly be done really well. Brandon Sanderson, Brent Weeks, and George…[Read more]

@joy Reading more widely should help you with writing stories with different themes.

As for the lessons your characters learn and the obstacles in their way, both of those lists seems good to me. I do, however, think that adding more obstacles could help make your story different. For instance, could there be a competitive suitor? Or maybe the…[Read more]

@hannah-c I’d be interested in doing it in January. I can’t guarantee it will work for me, but I think there’s a pretty good chance.

@ethryndal *raises brow* No one can withstand dragon breath.
@daughteroftheking Lived to tell the tale? Is that a cliche I hear? Melt it! Smash ’em boil ’em stick ’em in a stew!

Oops. @joy-schmidt

I’m gonna introduce Joy for her, and see if she likes my description.

Taller than me, so she’s lucky, like horses and cowboys, and Audrey Hepburn, and cats, and candles, and the Lunar Chronicles, and is hilarious, and we’re crazy together cause we’re both ENFP’s and she’s never been to Disney and she wants to go, so we’re planning on her either…[Read more]

I’m the only one who can withstand her…[Read more]

The trick is, I assume this angel is quite competent with a sword. The best idea that comes to my mind is that she could try…[Read more]

Hi, @joy-schmidt 😀

@catwing We’re all mad here!

To be honest, I haven’t read Alice in Wonderland, so I only know a few select quotes. XD

@catwing Curiouser and curiouser…

@catwing Ah, of course! I need to make sure it doesn’t get lost. 😉

@jane-maree I’m afraid my characters do tend that way… 😛 😉

@koryn-koch Major. I don’t even know why I’ve been following this thread. XD

Well, you guys inspired me. I actually went and made a collage for a character I haven’t even written yet. His name is Kaine.

Oh, and did I mention he’s a villain?
