@Xonos-darkgrate what @Daeus and the rest already said, basically, on the general subject.
I did, however, find your excerpt slightly disturbing, which is odd, because I’m not usually disturbed by that kind of stuff. It may have been because it lacked subtlety and I kind of just felt like I had my face shoved in a pool of blood for no reason and…[Read more]

@xonos-darkgrate I know some people who would find that too graphic, but I don’t. I think there’s a good light/dark contrast and it doesn’t make me feel empathetic toward the villain so I’d say this is good so long as it’s for a good purpose. 🙂

Oh, and I didn’t read your excerpt either. If I did, I’d want to know what basic content was in it first and I might not be able to get it in anyways.

I’ll just stop in real quick to drop a few bits of meat, but if you want to hear a lot about this subject, we have several articles on it.
The thing I think is crucial to understand with content is that you want sympathy but you do not want empathy.
Sympathy is when you feel for or understand another person’s e…[Read more]

Hey!
So I haven’t read the thing, because I’m a bit of a ‘link-a-phobe’ (not you, just the internet), but my main thoughts are dark themes and darkness in literature in general is that if you’re not comfortable showing it to someone close to you, like your mom or dad or brother or sister or best friend, then it may have gone to…[Read more] -

So, that’s Camille, Raphael, and Lachlan? Right-oh.
Interestingly enough, this is already reflecting the results of the three polls I posted on the YWWC. 😛

@leumeister I would personally vote 1, 3, 2.

@amy-l-klob I’d recommend starting by introducing your protagonist, but I would be careful about having a slow lead-in to the actual story. You want to grab the audience’s attention in the first page. That doesn’t mean you need to immediately leap into the main plot of your novel, but you should be including some conflict and/or intrigue that…[Read more]

Hello! I’m working on some characters for a dramedy series idea There are three robots, two guys and a girl, who are built to mimic human personality and free will. But they have to be kept a secret for the time being and have to be disguised.
Now, I have a problem. I have chosen three names for each of the characters, and the names I chose are…[Read more]

Lots of works have more than one villain. For the BBC series of Robin Hood, they had the Sheriff of Notingham, and Guy of Gisborne. Guy mostly worked for the Sheriff, but he also had his own personal axe to grind with Robin Hood, which didn’t just make him the main villain’s lackey.
Lord of the Rings has both Sauron and Sauraman Again, Sauraman…[Read more]

@Dragon-Snapper YAS. THE MORE VILLAINS THE BETTER.
*coughs* Okay, maybe not always… but personally, since I write sprawlingly epic books with dozens of thematic threads and plotlines apiece, I usually have at least two villains. One is usually the head bad guy, but giving him an evil sidekick doesn’t hurt.

Daeus replied to the topic Another Question in the forum Plotting 8 years, 5 months ago
@dragon-snapper Sure, though you shouldn’t just stick two stories in one book. The two villains need to have the same goal or attack the same weakness in the protagonist or do anything else that keeps the story coherent.

Thanks for the input guys! 😀
@kate-flournoy @daeus I tagged Kate because I knew she wrote fantasy…I just didn’t stop to consider how long the fantasy was. 😉 My mistake. Haha.

Heya Kapeefers. This week seems to be the Snapper Invents Topics week.
Another question:
Can you have two villains? It kinda makes the plotline a little weird I know, but can you have, say, for the first half of a book there be one villain and the other half another villain? Or does that really just mess things up?

Yeah… @Daeus and @Sam-Kowal were right. I’m the wrong person to ask.
