@dekreel That sounds frustrating–sorry you’ve been running into that! Is there a recent forum thread you can point us to where you’ve had this issue? I’m wondering if for some reason the forum software thinks your comments are spam and is trying to remove them from public view.

@livgiordano I second what some other people said that I don’t think you can fully do this without mentioning Christ. That being said, I don’t think you need to fully explore a theme or provide a full message within a short story. As long as you explore several true aspects of the theme & message and are pointing readers in the right direction, I…[Read more]

@jane-maree Yes, well, certainly there can be exceptions, but that’s the general trend. With KP, I know that our emails were read more when we removed all images from them except the picture prompts. That’s with people telling us they liked the pictures in the emails.
I’d recommend split testing it if you’re unsure. Just send out some with images…[Read more]

@aella Yeah, definitely speak in his terms. Don’t try to make him a writer or treat him like a writer, because that’s probably not where his focus should be. He won’t understand the way you think, so you have to understand the way he thinks which is. It doesn’t matter what you value about writing, find what he values and show him whatever ways…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien @mariposa Actually, statistics show that people are far more likely to read an email that has just text. People say they like pictures, but when it actually comes down to it, they distrust emails with pictures in them. Of course, it depends on your niche, but I think it’s most likely your audience will pay more attention to you…[Read more]

@Aella yikes… I do not envy you. 😛
Well… oh boy. If this was my task, I’d probably take a mathematical approach, since communication is all about presenting the material in the way your audience is already used to thinking.
First, I would explain the purpose of fiction— how it’s use is to touch people on the heart and make them think…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper What they said 😉
Quick tip: Make a goal list. Doing as many of these as you can is a fabulous goal, but don’t try and do them all at once. Pick your top three priorities (say like, email list, submitting a short story to a site and joining a new writing community) Focus on getting those three goals established/done before adding…[Read more]

Oops. @mariposa.
And I will say that you should try to make the emails visually attractive. Put color in, with photos, maybe a logo for your blog, artwork, etc. Everyone likes to read something more than a page of black lines.

@mariposa-aristeo
I’m usually attracted to an email list if I know the person and have previously read some of their work. I only have about half a dozen people I signed up for an email from. A few are friends of church that have small designing businesses, and the others are writers.
What you want to write about depends on what you’re trying to…[Read more]

This is an awesome idea! For some reason it seems like breaking-cliche for the writers to be the ones that are shunned and looked down on.
Sam has a point about how we technically could call dreaming irrational, since ration is logic, and dreaming is most usually not logic. But I defend dreaming with everything I’ve got.…[Read more]

Also, it might be helpful if you have the characters squinting with both the top and bottom eyelids. I’m reading a tutorial on how to rig using a certain method that’s supposed to simplify the process (kind of), and the example model he’s using has its eyes squinting. And examining the process, it makes a lot of sense.

@seekjustice I’m trying to write the last in the trilogy of Sector One. But I just started and beginning books is always hard for me. You know, getting back into the flow of voice and stuff. *groan*
Anywho, have you read any of Sector One?
