@emma-flournoy *throws hands in the air* I changed it because your sister told me to. Go fight it out with her!
Seriously @kate-flournoy, what do you think?

@Daeus That’s great. 🙂 Only thing I’d say more is maybe have a stronger verb than encounter for the ‘he encounters tangled plots…’ stuff. I see why you changed it, ’cause one can hardly plummet into bandits; but just ‘encounters’ is a little unexciting.
And actually, reading the other one again, I like it better as ‘plummets’, without the…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy, oh yes, I see that now, must have just read it wrong right off the bat. XD

@Daeus yes! I love it!
@Christi-Eaton I read it as ‘Forced to confront everything he fights for—shattered; everything he cherishes— put to the test, and a long hidden truth’ etc. The everything he fights for is shattered, and he has to confront that about it.

@daeus, I like it. It makes me want to read your story.
The only thing that doesn’t make any sense is here.
“he is forced to confront everything he fights for shattered, everything he cherishes…”
I’m assuming this is just a typo, because “fights for shattered” makes no sense. 🙂 Other than that this looks great!

Hey, y’all, this any better?
Matthew is sworn to avenge a murder. His dedication to his wronged family is powerful enough to bring him through any trial, but youth and inexperience hold him back. Setting out to find new strength, he encounters tangled plots, tragedies, bandits, and a deep uncertainty surrounding his destiny. Matthew returns years…[Read more]

@daeus, aww, so sad I missed the critiquing party. And may I just say A+ Rhett and Link on that Perspective video. 🙂 🙂 🙂

@winter-rose. Hmm. I’m not sure if the gradation in the color is giving it that feel or if it’s just the color. One way or another though, I think I can get it fixed.
Were you thinking something more medieval like…[Read more]

@Daeus oh dear. That’s awful. Try a little perspective next time. I hear it works wonders.

@kate-flournoy Uh… well I was doing productive thinking, but all I could think of every moment was how to fix the cover and I was starting to feel a bit sick from it. That’s what happens when I can’t think of anything but one thing.

@Daeus WHAT YOU WERE SITTING HERE WORRYING ALL MORNING??? 😛 Loosen up a bit. XD

@kate-flournoy Thanks. You probably saved me from a premature death by worry. I might be able to work the nose in too, but we’ll see.

@Daeus sorry I’m late again… @Hope wasn’t kidding when she said I had mice in the wifi box. Seriously. Twelve of them. They were promptly ejected, but they did mess things up quite a bit… 😛
And that definitely sounds like it could work; your idea. I especially like the idea about the letter. One word of caution— I can tell you from personal…[Read more] -

Alright. I think I’ve finally settled on an idea here. I’m thinking I’ll have the guy shrunken and focusing in just on him as a bust shot, leaving out his hand. I’ll put him down in the bottom 3/10ths of the page in the right-hand corner. On the left-hand side of the bottom 3/10ths of the page, I’ll have this letter from the story being consumed…[Read more]

Ok, folks.
So while we’re here, I thought I’d share a lesson I just learned about book covers. I went throughout our house and looked at all the novels we have then went and browsed the classics section on amazon. Here’s what I learned about what makes a good book cover.
#1 It’s simple. You don’t have to study it, you understand everything…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper Oh, yeah. The girl would be nixed.
Here’s another idea I had. What if I had the guy without his cane thingy (a little more zoomed up on his face) and then put him at the very bottom of the page with flames licking around him and then transitioned into a plain white and made the font more prominent. (in which case I would also…[Read more]

Oh yeah…heh. 😛 @daeus
Well, I kinda like the black and white idea, but I would be warned to make it readable. I don’t know what your thinking of, but what I have in my head is hard to read. And are you planning on keeping the guy in addition to the noose and the girl?? or would you loose one of them. All three of those would look cluttered. I…[Read more] - Load More
