…However, I’m in the small percentage of people who can’t suspend their disbelief without questioning the abilities of the robot’s creator. In my opinion, ideal robots would have as many dimensions as any real human being. Unfortunately, popular storytellers resort to charm rather than realism.

@sleepwalkingmk I think your revision of #1 works well and drives at what I was looking for. The character’s complete obedience to her parents is part of her personality, but stems from more issues than just the theme, which is why I don’t think it’s part of the answer to your FQ.

If you have a huge chunk of time on your hands, try The Count of Monte Cristo. Also Dickens’ Nicholas Nickleby. I’ll let you know if I think of any others. 😉 -
