@catwing @daeus @shannon @epicaddie2 @jessi-rae I’m either writing, editing or evilly plotting. One of those three. Join me, and we can rule the…ah…solar system.

Daeus replied to the topic Does the Bible forbid using an alias? in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years ago
@his-instrument Of all the instance of deception you mentioned, I don’t see problems with any of them. Except perhaps the alias one. I would think that a false is probably okay, but I’m not totally sure about that. I don’t think the bible specifically condemns deception and, like you pointed out, God sometimes commands deceptive tactics in…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper Fantastic–sounds like a solid length right there with plenty of room to expand if needed. 🙂

@daughteroftheking Haha! Yes, I do like Star Trek. I mainly watch Voyager, though from time to time I’ll watch Next Generation. As for the movies, I’ve only seen Star Trek: Beyond. Which ones do you like?
@lifeofkatie Thank you muchly!
@aratrea It is running at about 84,200 words as of now. Who knows how long it will be after I’m done editing? XD

@His-Instrument excellent example. I’ll just point back to what I said in my first post about consequences for every action, good and bad. Did Jean Valjean save Cosette’s life by assuming a name (and history) that was not his own? Possibly. Very probably.
Could God have saved her life anyway if Valjean had told the absolute truth? Yes.…[Read more] -

@his-instrument *blink* Wow, excellent question… I had to think about this one…
However, my answer is not going to be as theological or philosophical as @daeus and @kate-flournoy 😛
So, it wasn’t your post that made me think about this, but rather, the title. Your word alias, made me think about all the alias’ in the world right now. Pen…[Read more]

Well, I don’t mean to be excited by your calamity, but this is a really good subject.
I’m not going to express my whole opinion here, because I want to do some research first, but I’ll say a few things now.
First, a Christian family doesn’t always have to do the right thing. In such a case however, I do think it would be best to…[Read more]

@His-Instrument great questions.
My first thought is that comparing the practice of using an alias to protect one’s life to pretending madness is a little extreme. For one, your name is not who you are. It’s just what people call you. ‘By their fruit you shall know them’, not ‘by their name’.
That said, I believe it’s a fair question and…[Read more] -

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic Theme in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years ago
@Allison-Grace *sniffs* They already said it all.
I’ll just second what @Daeus said; you can have as many themes as you think will work, so long as they’re all related and complement each other. For instance, if your primary theme is honesty, your supporting themes could be telling the truth in love and/or telling the truth even when it’s ugly.…[Read more] -

Snapper replied to the topic Theme in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years ago
@allison-grace I was just working on the themes for my sequel, so I can compare my two theme-experiences.
For my first book, I wanted to have way more than one theme. In fact, I had nearly seven-ish themes. Then, I cut it back down to two. Although I managed to make them work, I found it extremely difficult to tackle. Now, I’m just working with…[Read more] -

You know you’re a writer when you misspell your villain’s name and start to worry.

Daeus replied to the topic Theme in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years ago
@allison-grace Absolutely. This is something we cover in our Theme Mastery course.
The one thing you need to understand is that 98% of the time, one of your themes will the the primary theme. You can have other themes that are very very important to your story, but generally these themes will be “supporting” themes to the main theme.
So I…[Read more]
