Heads up everybody! I wrote an article on fight scenes that probably won’t get published on Kingdom Pen ’cause it’s been a really long time and it’s past the Month’s Theme. If you want to get my article and “beta-reader” it for me then email me at mark (dot) kamibaya (at) gmail (dot) com.

Hey Kate,
Yeah, no, I understand your argument. I agree that you definitely need to slow down. The thing is if you begin to describe stuff a lot then the reader skips the “boring parts.” When you have short sentences it’s a lot easier to read.
Now I do understand about the need to slow down. I probably need to add some stuff for Sarah that you…[Read more]

How long on average does it take an article to be published? Mine are taking around two months.

You have to info-dump! Slowly 🙂 Even having a gossipy character or giving clues can be heavy-handed if used improperly. The big long speech has to be used sparingly. Like only once in a book. And you need to break up the speech with the characters moving so as to not have massive paragraphs or talking bubble heads (if you know what I mean).

100 best writing songs? Gotta be organized by genre. I mean there’s a lot of war music (read Immediate Music, Two Steps from Hell and audiomachine), but there needs to be like nice romance music. Or even tense kind of music. Basically, movie soundtracks. James Horner, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, John Powell. Awesome guys that can write emotion.

Great story idea! Write it. But remember that God’s design is for men to lead and for women to be a help meet. So the princess can rule, but she has to be able to see how it’s not the best design. God’s design.

Mark Kamibaya replied to the topic Unrealistic Romance in the forum General Writing Discussions 10 years, 8 months ago
Ya’ll are awesome in wanting to flip the stereotype, but I’d want a romance story that is real. One that includes “love at first sight.” Where there is heart-break. Arguments. Hate. And most importantly realization of true love. Realization that love isn’t a feeling, it’s a choice you keep on making. I think that is what is wrong with romance…[Read more]

Hey Sarah,
In every fight scene you have to show character. If you don’t you’ve failed. Use the five senses. Use short sentences. You should not describe everything. Don’t assault the reader with hard-to-understand fighting terms If the reader doesn’t understand. You’ve failed.

Hey Rachel,
I live in the Philippines (my home) and have only visited the US and Singapore. I can carry a casual conversation in Tagalog (National Language). It’s weird for me cuz my family’s culture is American but it’s also heavily layered with a lot of Philippine culture.

Hey, Rolena
If you want the honest answer my favorite medium of storytelling is actually movies. My favorite genre is speculative fiction. Less fantasy more sci-fi. -
