My quote is from X-men: Days of Future Past.
@perfectfifths Yours is from the Chronicles of Narnia. I just don’t know which book (or movie). Can anyone be more specific?

@dragon-snapper I really don’t have much to say. Everybody is right on with their idea of what makes a hook good. I like to start my books with either dialogue or an action. However, my favorite first line, “It was a pleasure to burn” (from Fahrenheit 451), is a description so I guess I might try to do that too.
Mark’s favorite first line hon…[Read more]

@leumeister Are you sure you want me to explain all of the other ones? ‘Cause I can talk a lot.

“Just because someone stumbles and loses their path, doesn’t mean they’re lost forever.”
And this is also from a released movie 🙂

@HowlingWolf Watch out. Make sure it doesn’t sound like Animorphs (click link).

It’s good. Really good. I’d rate it a seven though. I think it brings up too many parralels with Count of Monte Cristo. If your story really is a revamped Monte Cristo story then no changes are needed. However if there are notable differences then maybe consider adding those ti the summary. Also, story summaries generall end right after the…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy This discussion is so old! But I’m gonna do this anyway.
Why would we stone you for watching the Jungle Book?
As for theme I agree that it was well done. However, I didn’t see the “anti-environmentalist” theme as much as the self-identity theme. I’m guessing they actually weren’t pushing for the environment theme, because the main…[Read more]

@bluejay I’m not sure. Is it from Davy Crockett or Daniel Boone or something?

I’m sorry, but I thought it was a little cliched. It does seem a bit overdone, but the other room idea is pretty good. Or you could run with the transportation idea, but have it only go to a certain room in multiple other worlds. What’s in the room? That’s the question, isn’t it?

@anne-of-lothlorien @winter-rose It’s from Interstellar . . . which is a space movie. It’s like super great (except for the fact that it’s a space movie. I hate space movies)

@dragon-snapper Yay! I’ve finally gotten around to replying to you! My apologies of course 🙂
Okay, so you’re a rebel. That’s . . . something. From what I understand you mainly don’t like the hype. I don’t either. That’s one reason why I hated it because when lots of people like lots of stuff I don’t want to be the guy who jumps on the bandwagon.…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien From Google: Support or have a particular interest in a romantic pairing between two characters in a fictional series, often when this relationship is one portrayed by fans rather than depicted in the series itself.

@hope @winter-rose Yay! People know my favorite Marvel quote ever (and I forgive you @writefury for misspelling my foreign name)
@anne-of-lothlorien Click the words La La Land. It’s a link to the trailer. That should explain your question.
And that quote is from The Fellowship of the Ring. Gandalf reprimanding Pippin (as usual).

@dragon-snapper Definitely, deep third person. I think you get the perfect amount of objectivity and subjectivity with deep third person. Also, you know Josiah’s article? That’s why I like deep third person.

I’m late. How embarrassing! I finished NaNoWriMo with 50070 words. And that’s after a writing hiatus spanning one and a half years (plotting, you know?). So I feel pretty accomplished even five days later.
And I got this email from KP that said that it was mostly girls who finished NaNoWriMo. So I’m wondering if there were any guys (connected…[Read more]

@daeus Wow! I don’t know if you’re over thinking this or if I’m underthinking it (probably the latter). Either way I respect whatever choice you make. And I’ll be sure to pray for you. As for Bible translations, I think the best is the ESV (and their study Bible is boss!), but I love reading different translations and comparing them.
