@jenwriter17 I agree with @seekjustice, the plot does sound slightly cliche. However, not all cliches are bad (even the best books have cliches). It doesn’t matter so much if the plot is cliche as long as the outcome isn’t. I really like Seek Justice’s idea of having the mentor be the villain; that’d give it an unusual twist.
Hmmm…as for the…[Read more]

@graciegirl Yay! *hands you chocolate covered pineapple* Aberdeen has kept asking me, “Where is Gracie?” I told him I didn’t know and he was so depressed that he went these 10 weeks without munching on a single book. Even his usual steaming cup of ink couldn’t cheer him up.

@rochellaine What kind of illustrations are you looking for? Simple drawings or more detailed? Cartoon or realistic? Do you know when you’d need them? Also, are you looking for paid illustrations or free? You can view my work on my blog. I have done illustrations before, but only for myself.
However, there are many other amazing artists here on…[Read more]

@rochellaine Hmmm…I’ll have to have a talk with Aberdeen. He normally doesn’t eat someone’s books without their permission, unless they happen to be super tantalizing. 😜
I have a friend who absolutely detests Barney, but then I have another friend who absolutely loves him. 😅 You might like the later seasons better because Barney ends up leaving t…[Read more]

@rochellaine Greetings! Me and my assistant, Aberdeen the Authorosaurus (he’s an ink-drinking, book-eating dinosaur) give you a hearty handshake!
I love the 1950s! Do you happen to like watching old TV shows like The Andy Griffith Show or Bonanza?
By the way, I love your name. 🙂 How is it pronounced?

@inkling-for-Christ Since your book is not yet finished, beta readers or a service like Jane Maree’s might be a good starting point for you before contacting an editor. 🙂
You might not be ready for someone like Brianna Hilvety whom Elizabeth recommended. Brianna is a professional editor and will charge for her services (as all reputable editors d…[Read more]

@inkling-for-christ Are you looking for editorial advice from fellow peers or a professional editor? As one fellow author to another, I highly recommend hiring a professional editor if you intend to pursue a career in writing. Editors clean up your work, not only fixing grammar, but making sure your wording is clear and concise and getting rid of…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 It’s funny that you chose a person in a cave as the subject since I actually wrote a scene with a character in a cave (except it wasn’t at night).
Challenge: Show
Setting: a character in a deep cave at night
I swung my backpack off my shoulder and fumbled for a flashlight. I dug out a notebook, a germ gel bottle, two hairpins that…[Read more]

@daughteroftheking Can I tell you a secret? *lowers voice* We never eat our gingerbread houses. Whoever made these kits did not make them for human consumption—the gingerbread is as hard as concrete. @winter-rose Oh, I like this one! Hmm, I think it’s fine with or without “whether it’s by frustrating his ward and…etc.”
How about instead of ending with, “Another bodyguard would give anything to protect a wealthy lady from Telir, but not Rook,” reword it to “Another bodyguard would give anything to protect Amy, but not Rook” (since you’ve…[Read more]

@emily-d No, I’m afraid I haven’t read this one either. I have a friend who adores Jane Austen books, but as for myself, I’m not particularly fond of books with a strong romantic slant.

@itisastarrynight It’s a book with illustrations. 🙂 It’s a middle-grade book about a scientist who travels back in time to the dinosaur age. I’ve finished all but one of the illustrations for the first book, but I haven’t done any for the second and only one for the third.
Here’s one from the first book:
