I have to agree with Daeus, @bluejay. I definitely like the topic for the poem ( 😉 ) but it’s sort of just…words. The very first thing I noticed, though, it that you switch back and forth between past and present tense. Decide which one to use and keep it throughout the whole thing. I’d definitely say humans are on a higher scale of priority for creatures with souls. 😉
Hmm… I’ve never done talking animals before, but they fit into a side-character/pet role more. Though generally, if they die, I give the impression that they went to heaven… don’t know if that counts?

I started an account, but I haven’t been on it for some time. My experience was good though. I came across a few decent books, and the process of typing in your story isn’t too much different than Microsoft Word -minus the fancy art you can apply to the letters, clip art, and all that.
