Leo: *gentle if slightly confused smile* Of course. Do…do you mind staying with Silvia?
Leo
War heroes? A frown creased Leo’s brow. Had this kid ever even deamed a childhood? “No. Just a bunch of kids walking home from school. They saw the sidewalk had a new square of pavement, and decided it would be fun to write their names in the wet cement. A little silly perhaps, but harmless.”
He turned a thoughtful gaze onto his work. “Back when I was young, I showed Silvia how to make leaf imprints in new sidewalk. We redecorated the neighborhood, so to speak.”
He sigh, and started gathing his tools up.
“Those were good days, even with all the badness.”

Fork the GorkOkay, so my brain has been reading things with interesting twists to words. I literally just read that as “We’ve reached 500 papayas, guys.”
XD

Fork the GorkOh my word! WHY CAN’T HE BE MY OLDER BROTHER!?!? I need a Leo!!😭😍
*Leo is concerned. He wonders if maybe this Ellette girl needs adopting too*

His eyebrows quirked, but he didn’t question Rory’s agitated silence. God knew what was going through the kid’s head.
He flicked the torch on to a low, white flame. The sealent bubbled a bit under the heat. He slowly turned it up to a much hotter blue, thankful for his well fired gauntles. His visor closed of it’s own accord, sensing the rising temperature.
It only took a few seconds for the seal to lose its opaque whiteness and turn clear. Leo switched off the torch.
“There, all done. Now we let that cool and don’t let any kids sign their names in it like they did the pavement outside.” He grinned as he slipped off his helmet. “Not that I ever did anything like that when I was young.”

He waited for Rory to move back before slipping on his helmet, but, just as he readied the torch, something told him to stop.
Why is he staring at me?
“You good kid? Do you-” Leo stopped, fingers about to drop his visor frozen in place. Something about the kid reminded him of a test pilot who’d nearly gone down with his ship. The man had to be transferred to another position. “Hey, you need space? I’ve done this plenty. Maybe not on tile, but heaps of other stuff. Did it hanging off my ship once when we had an air leak out of atmosphere.”
He slowly resumed prepping the torch, but left his helmet visor up so Rory could see his face.
“You ever used one of these before?”

“We’re going to fix this tile.”
He opened the bottle of sealant and carefully poured it into the cracks between shards. It pooled over the tile in a nice, whitish gloup. Using a paint scraper from his belt, Leo spread the stuff out until both broken tiles were covered in an even layer.
“This stuff will set up hard as steel with the right amount of heat. I’ve used this stuff on pretty much everything. Silvia made it.”
The small blowtorch felt good in his hands. An old friend. He and looked over at Rory with a bright smile. “You may want to back up a tad. This gets hot.”

“Ah! Many thanks. You didn’t cut yourself, did you?”
Rory looked down at his gloved hands and shrugged. Leo carefully picked up the shard. It slipped in place, filling the largest gap.
Maybe he wouldn’t need aluminum alloy after all. Which was good. He’d have had to leave Rory here guarding their work to go find some, and leaving the kid anywhere didn’t seem…wise. He had a back for getting into pickles.
“Do you?” The question was soft. Leo looked up and met the kid’s questioning gaze.
He gave a soft smile.
“I did. As an apprentice engineer, I built and designed a lot of…stuff.” He looked back at the shattered tile. His voice was quiet. “Bombs, guns, ships, arms, anything really. My last year I spent mostly designing and rebuilding aerospace ships.”
Particularly energy shields, or rather, what was supposed to be shields. Should have been.
He nudged another shard in place. “Looks like we’ve got most of this. Ready for a blowtorch?”

“Eh, maybe.” He looked up, eyebrows bunching together. “Except the plan is to get everything to fit perfectly together. So, maybe.”
He settled another piece in place. One tile was coming together quite nicely.
“I’d think of it more like fitting a bomb shell with it’s cordinants. All the bits have to be just so, or your shell won’t go off. Are these all the pieces?”
He glanced down the hall, wondering how he’d fill the gaps. Maybe aluminum…

Fork the GorkLeo
“Good question.” He sat back on his heels and reached for another broken piece. “I think it’s some sort of game, or at least that’s what a friend of mine said. You have a picture that’s been cut up into a lot of pieces, and you have to put the pieces together to see the full picture. Or something like that.”
He rearranged the pieces in the gaping hole of missing tile until he found two that seemed to fit together.
“It’s something they do on Sordes. Weird, huh?”
First Grand Historian of Arreth and the Lesser Realms (aka Kitty)
Fork the GorkOoooh, you’re cruel. Tossing that out there like that after I’ve already fallen for this character and everything. *Turns my glare on you*
XD
Leo
The two tiles had broken up, pieces scattered across the hallway. Leo knelt to pick up a piece. It’s edge was rough, sharp enough to cut skin. Porcelain then. Although it had been broken by a metal filing cabinet. So not quite porcelain.
Hmm…he still had a bottle of sealant, and his touch. The air conditioner hadn’t needed much to stop the leak. No knowing where he’d even find replacement tile.
He glanced up at Rory. “You wearing those gloves, kid?”
Rory nodded, lifting his begloved hands.
“Good. Looks like we’ve got a jigsaw puzzle.”

Fork the GorkOooof…no…*glared at Wyoh*
I’ll probably zip them off somewhere to *ahem* illustrate Leoron’s interesting fixing methods.
Rory is not fine, he has broken ribs and a cracked knee, and no you don’t build immunity to broken bones. XDFirst Grand Historian of Arreth and the Lesser Realms (aka Kitty)
Fork the GorkWell…
Since you’re helping out with the Susan story, you saw how I typically plot, and um…I’m almost done with his plot diagram…so now actual scene writing is supposed to start…
First Grand Historian of Arreth and the Lesser Realms (aka Kitty)
Fork the GorkOh yes. The Button. XD
(I think It’s your turn? But I can go ahead and just scoot them off to some new assignment if you want.)
Or….. I could call the agents back and have them deal with him…….
or you could bring in a rebel captain to look over the place. Say they’ve driven the agents out of the school for a time.
am totally not trying to keep Rory boy safe long enough for his cracked ribs to heal, poor kid.Plus, variantion…First Grand Historian of Arreth and the Lesser Realms (aka Kitty)
Fork the GorkYay! Thank you. They will now be highlighted on my playlist sheet.
(I’m actually considering having him play a type of guitar. Like, just a random thing to throw into his character. It’s so different from the aesthetic of the book [space outlaws and warring gangs aren’t very “calm guitar”ish], but he just seems like the kind of guy to sit in his cockpit and play around with chords)
