In broadsword fighting, is there a difference between a defensive stance and an offensive stance?

If you do, I would definitely want to read it.

Yes, my fight scene definitely fails. I will improve it. Thanks for suggesting that I use short sentences; I can see how that would add to the tension, suspense, etc. that I am trying to create.

I am definitely not an expert on love at first sight, but I think it might be possible, because it happened to Corrie ten Boom’s brother. Maybe, though, love isn’t quite the right word for that occurrence, because, like you said, true love is built on sacrifice and service, not emotions.

Thanks, Mark! I will definitely remember to go easy on the long speeches. 🙂

My favorite autobiographies are Alicia: My Story by Alicia Jurman and In Hitler’s Germany by Bernt Engelmann (although it’s not exactly a biography). The Hiding Place is also one of my favorites.
Daeus, your great grandfather survived the Armenian Massacres? That’s amazing. Was that when the Ottoman Empire killed one million Armenians? Or was…[Read more] -

Really? That’s so exciting! I’ve always wanted to be a missionary (and I still do, of course). Do you know yet which country in Africa The Lord is sending you to?
I can definitely relate to your last comment. The earlier drafts of my novel have so much plagiarism I’m embarrassed to read them. 🙂 -

Princess Jewels- what a beautiful name. We rarely call our birds by their real names, either. 🙂

Wow, that is neat. It must have been cool to speak with a native Swahilian. Do you think you’ll ever go to Africa?
Yes, they are intense, and very difficult to read (for me, at least). I definitely do not recommend any of her later books; the romance in them is too…adult.
I’ve read two of the Anne of Green Gable books. How many are there in the…[Read more] -

Hi, Carilyn!
Wow, you self-published your novel? Congratulations! -

That sounds fun. I’m not completely sure what a thread is, but I guess I’ll find out! 🙂

I have no idea; I’ve never done anything like this before. What do you and Kate think?

Thank you so much, Daeus! The soldier has been fighting for at least 16 years, and is very experienced, while the knight is in his early twenties. I probably should have included those details in my first post; sorry about that! Your explanation of the different moves was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

Thank you, Daeus and Rolena.
Daeus, my story takes place in the year 1311, and the fight is between two Englishmen; the soldier is older, taller, and stronger, but the knight has more training. At first, I had the soldier conquer the knight almost immediately, but I don’t think that is realistic. So I decided to make the fight longer; and that’s…[Read more] -

Hi, Jada! Welcome to Kingdom Pen!
What kind of writing have you done so far? -

Wow! Teaching yourself a foreign language is quite an accomplishment. I’m trying to teach myself Hebrew, but it sounds like you are far ahead of me! 🙂 Isn’t Swahili an African language? What alphabet does it use?
Thanks; I will be on the lookout for them.
Hm… I have a lot of favorites, but the ones that come to mind right now are Frank…[Read more] -

P.S. That’s how I became an official writer. I’ve been inventing stories in my head for as long as I can remember.

Hi, Hannah, it’s nice to meet you! WaterSnail is a very interesting name; how did you acquire it?
Well, I think two things got me into writing: a) my favorite author, Bodie Thoene, and b) the deplorable lack of good books in the library (especially in the Children’s and Young Adult sections). Bodie Thoene’s series on the Holocaust inspired me to…[Read more] -
