@hope– Then I will look forward to reading them when you publish them. You are a terrific writer.
I can’t think of any examples either, in modern fiction anyway. *thinks* Actually, the Viking Quest series did that! How could I forget? Did you read Viking Quest?@daeus– That is a great book, isn’t it? Maybe I should read it again. I had forgotten…[Read more]

Hi, Daeus! Something very unexpected came up, and my phone didn’t have internet access. It sure is good to be back.

@hope– I’m sorry it took me so long to reply. Yes, that makes perfect sense. I will write accordingly. Can you give me an example of a book in which the author does that?

Thank you for starting this topic, Tessa! Ecclesiastes 12 is very poetic. Some of my favorite verses are in the Psalms:
“Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I d…

@Daeus– Ohhhh. Sorry. I did think that. So, basically, I should let the reader infer that they are in love from their actions, instead of saying “they were madly in love”, right?
@Kate, thanks for the advice! I like the idea of ending the story with their marriage, since the climax is intense and kind of sad, and I don’t want to leave my reader…[Read more]

@Daeus– How do you show romance without showing the mushy stuff? What do you show?

@Kate- Okay, thank you. Their friendship was built mostly on working together to survive drastic situations. (It was supposed to stay a friendship. I don’t know what happened…) Thanks for the checklist. Maybe this won’t be as difficult as I thought it would be. Now I have to figure out whether they slowly fall in love over the course of the…[Read more]

I never thought I would be asking this question, since I can’t stand romance novels, but I am. How do you write clean, realistic romance that’s not annoying? When I began my novel I was determined to keep romance out of it, but I guess my two MCs had different ideas. So I tried to avoid it by killing them both in the climax, but that’s even worse.…[Read more]

Sarah Hoven replied to the topic Magic and Fantasy in the forum Fantasy 10 years, 4 months ago
@Daeus– Let me use an analogy of my own- what make a demon evil? I believe a demon is evil because of what it is, not because of its characteristics. Your analogy doesn’t really apply because all humans are not inherently evil, so the evil would have to be in the characteristics. Not so with demons.
One final word:
“Thou shalt not suffer a w…[Read more]

Hi Daeus! I was wondering when you would join in. Just a quick question- you mentioned Hope twice in your post. Were you referring to Hope Schmidt? Or was that a typo?
What makes them inherently evil?
I believe they are inherently evil because of what they are in real life. And no, I don’t believe werewolves are related to the nephillim; a…[Read more] -

@Kate- Ah, yes. I guess this is what you would call a stalemate. Thanks for letting me see your side of the debate. I do see where you’re coming from, although I still disagree. 🙂
About the elf thing, here’s a link to an article that basically sums up what I’m trying to say. Not that I agree with everything on the site, but I think this…[Read more]

@Daeus– I think I see what you mean. This is the only forum I’ve been on, so I’m still rather ignorant of social media protocol. Sorry. 🙂
@Kate- Oh, you believe magic is a natural law. I didn’t realize that. I believe it is spiritual. I believe that magic is supernatural power from the enemy, and I believe it is distinctly different from God’s…[Read more]

@Kate, I’m glad you agree that we shouldn’t change God’s nature. But if, in our stories, we make God call something good which in reality He calls evil, then we are changing His nature. We are creating our own god. We do change His nature when we say He empowers werewolves or creates magical powers. You see, there is a fundamental difference…[Read more]

@Daeus, I really do want to discuss this on the forum. I’m not asking the staff to ban fantasy. I want to share my concerns with the other subscribers.
@Kate Flournoy, that’s a good point about allegory. I’ve been struggling with that question, because I beta read Hope Schmidt’s allegory King’s Armor yesterday, and I thought it was really good. I…[Read more]

Dear fellow KPers- I have noticed that the use of magic and fantasy by Christian authors seems to be accepted in this writing community. I haven’t wanted to say anything, but I have been seeing more and more magic and fantasy on here. When I first discovered Kingdom Pen, I was so excited to find a community of believers who also wanted to write…[Read more]
