Joy replied to the topic When characters won't talk right… in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years ago
@kaya-young It depends on what your dialogue looks like. If you post a piece here or something, I’d be more than happy to give you some pointers 🙂
Overall, my best piece of advice is to make sure that your characters’ vocab isn’t far-fetched. Especially if your story is contemporary or futuristic. For example, this sentence, “Can we progress…[Read more]

The fledgling Artist replied to the topic Character Name Exchange in the forum Fantasy 8 years ago
@kaya-young I don’t have any suggestions for names.. But I was thinking about what makes a name sound futuristic.. And now I’m really curious. 😀 I do notice that futuristic names tend to be short? And often they are like normal names but spelled in an uncommon way. I feel like there is more to it then that though. What makes a name sound…[Read more]

@kaya-young Here are a few I made up that could be futuristic:
Carill/Karill
Jurain(e)
Buddle (I think this would be a great kid or sidekick name 😀 )
Kirlas (My favorite on this list)
Jeale
Clomark
Mikra
Thrae
Rillor (This could also be a surname?)
Karby
Safiom (This one’s great for nicknames)Umm, is that enough? 😀 😀 I hope you like some of these.

@kaya-young My favorite futuristic/sci-fi name is Tyver (boy name). Yes, I made it up XD
There’s also Vekka, and Tara pronounced (Tah-ra)Â (both girl names)
And Torren (boy) 🙂

The GIF-hiders: An Easter Story
Part Three: The Flight to the Castle
That afternoon, Jenna opened the door of her house to a whooshing noise just outside, and she gasped at the sight of a sleek, dark red dragon, peering at her silently with yellow eyes.
Jenna’s mouth couldn’t help but fall open, even after hours of mental preparation. But now…[Read more]

@kaya-young Oh, oh…don’t ask! I’m trying, but it’s not going as fast as I would like.
By the way, I haven’t even found out what happens to her yet! 😀 I’ve done a very little bit of outlining, but mostly I just write as I go and see what comes out. (Which is sometimes a good thing – and sometimes a very bad thing.)

Yes, I do want to make a difference on the culture with my writing, not only on the secular publishing market, but on the Christian one as well, because I rarely enjoy anything I read in either of those (though there are novels I do love in both).
I feel my ultimate calling by God, is, like @kaya-young to become a missionary, however, I…[Read more]

I wanted to do an informal survey. How many of you want to impact the culture with your writing?
I’ve got a follow-up question, but I’ll wait till you answer this one. 😉
